Jenny Yoo Annabelle bridesmaid dress - cost too much?

Melissa, on January 16, 2015 at 1:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 72

So I've found a bridesmaid dress that I am absolutely in love with and after hours of searching online, I can't find anything I like more! It's the Jenny Yoo Annabelle dress. It's made out of tulle and it's convertible so you can wear it in a few different styles which I think is really unique. I want the dress in blush pink but I like the one shoulder style like the picture.

How much is too much to have bridesmaids spend on a dress? The dress is $260 on bhldn.com. My wedding is out of town so all of my bridesmaids will have to pay for two nights in a hotel room already so I feel like it's too expensive. I've showed them all the dress and they all love it and say "it's your wedding day! I'm willing to spend whatever!" but I'm not sure I have the heart to make them spend that much :/

If they have to book 2 nights at a hotel for your wedding, then yes the dress is too expensive.

This was my bridesmaids dress when I was in a wedding last September! After alterations mine ended up being about $425 total- they are long so your 'maids will need them hemmed for sure if they are under 5'9" I think.

Ours were tulle and they got caught on EVERYTHING. Mine was ruined by the end of the night, tears along the bottom from shoes, on the dress from flowers snagging it. I wasn't too impressed with the quality. We got ours from Nordstrom and the service was great!

    I hope this helps!

My bridesmaids paid 189 before tax for their dresses. Although I love them I still feel bad that it is too much. They also purchased shoes. They will all need hotel for at least one night (I will be staying night before so they can stay with me, they all live at least an hour from where the wedding is). We are doing manis/peids before the rehearsal, but I didnt' mandate it. Some only want manis or pedis, which is fine the point is to hang out. I've felt so bad about the dresses I decided to cover hair and makeup, although they were all fine with paying for their hair.

The most I was comfortable my girls spending was $200 so I paid the overage in that. I'm also paying for their rooms as I'm super self conscious about asking people for money and want to thank them for supporting me so much through all these years! 8 bridesmaids added up fast but it was definitely worth it to me. Hearing that the dresses didn't hold up well isn't a great sign, so I would be a little hesitant to order them for that reason

You have to add in the cost of alterations. Plus 2 nights stay in a hotel on top of that? I think it's too much.

I personally wouldn't want to pay that, especially if I had to pay for two nights at a hotel. HOWEVER I probably wouldn't say that to the bride and would likely pay for it anyways Smiley smile Maybe you could pay for part of the dress for each of your girls? I would feel bad making them pay for it too!

If they're already paying for a hotel for 2 nights, then yes that is a bit pricey for a dress (however i dont know how much money your girls make on a regular basis so its a hard call), and they'll also have to dish out money for alterations. so id make sure they are being honest and not just trying to please you when they say they're willing to pay that much for a one day dress.

Sorry Melany but not everyone can afford $395 or even $260. Just because your BMs were ok with that cost does not mean hers will be.

OP, this is a question for your BMs. You need to ask them their budgets (privately) before choosing a dress and then keep the cost of the dress at the lowest budget, or be prepared to contribute to the cost if you really want a dress that is out of their budgets.

Personally, it would be too much. I think you can find many gorgeous dresses for under $200. Especially factoring in alterations, shoes, hair/makeup, and hotel, you're looking at a lot of money, and anywhere you can make it easier is helpful.

But only you know your friends. This is why I asked each of my BM's how much they'd be comfortable spending before I started looking.

I think my BM dresses ranged from $200-260 (5 different dresses for 5 girls). Talk to you BM about what they can afford and ask them what they had in mind to spend. If they're ok with the price then I say go for it

This isn't a tulle dress, but it does remind of the one you posted (which is beautiful!). Its Alfred Angelo, so I can't imagine it be as much as Jenny Yoo

Tulle, one shoulder, and I've heard good things from the site? $160? I would keep looking just for the sakes of looking, and then if you really don't like anything else (and neither do your bridesmaids) then get it.

That is a lot! When you think about all the costs that go into being a BM... I would not be happy paying anything over 200 regardless of my financial situation.

Is there any room in your budget to cover part of the cost? $260 is not unreasonable for a BM dress but that plus travel/accommodations it is quite a bit. It is very nice of your BM's to be okay with the cost, but it would also be a nice gesture perhaps if you offered to pay a portion... maybe offer to pay for the alterations or something to that affect, if you think you can afford it.

Honestly, our opinions don't matter. It's theirs you need. Ask them how they feel about the price and that will tell you all you need to know. Different people can afford different things. My girls dresses are $310 and I asked them before choosing. I also let them know if they need financial help with their purchase to please ask. I'm traveling back home for my wedding and I have 3 bridesmaids that will be traveling also so it just depends on what they can afford. If you really want those dresses and some can't afford them, pitch in.
