Jeans or Slacks

SB, on May 17, 2018 at 11:04 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Hey y'all! We are having our wedding at a beautiful rustic venue in North Texas. My FH and I agreed that all the guys will wear the same brand jeans and all starched so they all match. I think that's a wonderful idea and so does my FH, but we have heard from SO many people who wore jeans that they wish they would've worn slacks. Granted, they all dressed way down. No jackets, ties, etc. Just button down shirts and boutonnieres. We're doing sports coats, button downs, vests and ties, so don't think the jeans will look underdressed. Anyone else's FH/GM wearing jeans?

I personally do not like this trend. A wedding is supposed to be dressed up. Why have girls in gowns if the guys aren't going to be dressed up in suits. Mixing upper body suit style with blue jeans is weird to me. Just like a fancy skirt and t shirt for the girls. However it is a very popular trend if it is what you like or want to do then do it because at the end of the day it's your wedding day and you need to be happy with it.

Starching jeans? Seems like an oxymoron to me.

I know there are areas of the country where men wear jeans to otherwise dressy events, but it's not here.

It's not popular in my geographic region or social circle, but I say, hey, if you want to do it, why not? I've never been to a wedding where people wore jeans, but I wouldn't mind it.

I think if they all wear a similar pair of khaki's you are good Smiley smile

We wanted something super casual so my FH told the groomsmen to wear whatever they wanted... my poor FH when he mentioned to me that's what he told them 😂😂😂.

Jeans are never appropriate for a wedding, IMO. A wedding is a special occasion, and people should be dressed accordingly. Not how they dress on a regular Tuesday.

    Also no one starches jeans....

I think it would look a little strange with sports coats, a vest, tie, and jeans. I would do some nice dress pants for the bottom half or make the top half less dressy. I’m from North Texas as well and haven’t ever been to a wedding with guys in jeans.

Lol.... most people here starch jeans. That's a huge thing down south.

Thanks for the comments everyone! Almost all weddings I've been to except for 2-3 wore jeans and it looked great, but wanted some more opinions on if anyone's husband had any regret doing that.

If this is a thing in your circle, and all parties involved are on board then I think that is your answer.

We are getting married outside at a barn venue, it's a real equestrian barn turned wedding venue in the Summer. We are opting for tan slacks. I'll be in a nice dress and our parents will be dressed up, so it seems like a day to dress up for us at least. They will still be in cowboy boots, then cowboy hats during the reception.

I have never personally been to a wedding where this was done - but I could see for a specific type of wedding why some people might do it.

Personally its not my taste and if you are doing it then your affair is definitely going to read as very casual and all the attire should reflect that. Including the brides.

Setting aside my personal distaste for this -- what do male guests wear to these weddings? I think it's odd to potentially have the guests more dressed up than the groom and GMs.

Just because people have a different lifestyle from yours doesn't mean "no one does it". It's very common actually, especially in the agriculture and southern states. I say go for it girl, look at Pinterest there are a lot of insp. pics on there for that type of look.

I personally like the slightly dressed down look of jeans. DHs groomsmen decided to wear slacks though. My dad walked me down the aisle in black jeans 😊

Thank you, Theresa! I think it’s a great look and it’s a pretty casual event. Our guests can wear what they want. I guess most people on here aren’t from the south lol.

I do too, Mrs.Hays! We definitely aren’t black tie affair people, so we would look out of place at our own wedding haha. They’ll still have the class and elegance, but not miserable in a suit all night. Love black jeans!

Our guys are wearing jeans! The guys groomsmen will be wearing button ups and western silk scarves with boots and fh will have an oil skin leather vest with the silk scarf. While our wedding won’t be super casual this is a very common look here in MT. I like it!

Go with what he wants! My husband insisted on an outfit that did NOT fit the formality of our day....but it made him happy and I thought he looked amazing!
