January vs February

Nicole, on February 23, 2017 at 11:14 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

So I originally wanted to be married in September because of the nice weather and being able to be married outside. We fell in love with a venue, but it's way out of our budget to get married in September there. We were able to get a really good deal for January or February. I'm willing to get over not having the wedding in September to be able to get married at my dream place, but which month should I do? Is there that much of a difference between Jan and Feb? Need some advice please (:

Well what city is it? Can't look at the weather without that info. Also keep in mind people travel for the holidays so February might be a better option for people financially.

I'm in NY and to me there isn't a difference in weather between those 2 months. It might make a difference for some though.

It honestly depends where you live. I want my date know February bc of a certain date, but FH wants it sooner so we literally moved it up like 3 weeks, which makes no sense, but oh well. I'm getting married to my best friend so that's what matters most.

February. People are still recovering from the holidays in January. I'm in FL so I chose the end of Feb as it is likely to be more mild temps than January. Check the weather averages for your city.

    Depends on where you live.

    Things to consider:

    - Snow / ice

    - If you have out of town guests, flight cost difference?

    - Ask your VIPs what they prefer if you truly do not care

    - Holiday weekends, if the venue only has certain dates available

Sorry forgot to say where I am! I am in NJ and I totally didn't even think about everyone recovering from the holidays. Such a good point! Thanks for the tips!

I am outside NY and not much difference in either month. We had 65 degrees last Sunday and this week it'll be 57, but last year it snowed consistently though both months....

We are having a Feb wedding. I live in Texas, and it's 85 degrees today. Really depends on your location though.

Never thought I would say these words, but I agree with Pickles (above).

Give people some time to recover from holiday spending and you will fair better in the gift department, although that is not everything.

I see you're in Sea Isle, I would pick January because generally February is when we get snowstorms around here unless it is like this year where you're on the beach in February - but I wouldn't count on that. Even this year the one storm we've gotten so far has been February and since I've been with FH (7 years) there has been a big storm hit NJ/PA area in February.

I had a January wedding and I loved that there was still a holiday feel and free decorations at the church lol

There were a couple of reasons why we chose February.

    1. Passed the holiday hubbub and guests wouldn't likely be going out of town.

    2. We wanted a winter wedding and I did not want to have a Christmas or winter white themed event.

    3. The weather was more ideal than January. We are in CA, so it made a difference.

    4. We weren't going to be too close to any other friends weddings. Or anniversaries for that matter.

I'd say if you're in a snow prone area? Definitely get wedding insurance. You should anyway, but especially if there is a chance that you can get *weather*.

I would prefer early Feb. Should be nice and snowy (hopefully) and beautiful. And guests can recover from holidays and hopefully be more festive again and itching for some fun.

@kelsey it's 89 in Dallas! And I would choose February since the holidays as well.

Depends on where you live. We wanted to get married in January, but if there's a blizzard, we'd be out thousands of dollars.

We picked January because it was available. No matter which one you pick you should get wedding insurance so if you have bad weather and everything is shut down you are covered.

I'd say go with February because in January a lot of people are still recovering financially from the holidays.

I'm a weirdo and I like my holidays and 'special events' (e.g. birthdays, anniversary etc.) to be spaced out throughout the year, so I would choose February. As others have pointed out, it gives people enough time to recover from the holidays.
