January Reception

Katelin, on October 2, 2020 at 2:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Hi ladies! I haven’t been on here in months seeing as though my husband and I eloped back in July 🤗
We decided to postpone our reception to January. We were very confident with this decision and so is our venue. But recently I’ve been getting nervous planning (all over again) because of COVID....
I know we won’t know until it’s closer to time, but I genuinely wonder if people will even go...
What would you guys do? We’re considering seeing how many people actually rsvp and if there’s not many, then cancel the whole thing.

Depends on how large you want your event and how your venues can accomodate! I'm getting married in January and the total expected is around 25-28, which works for me because I wanted to save money and only invite family.

Communicate with your venue about Covid precautions and share the info with guests that you invite on your website to perhaps ease their anxiety. I hope that will also help ease your own nervousness about planning. Smiley smile

Originally, we expected 120ish guests before the pandemic. Now I’m thinking maybe 40-60??
The venue said they’ll have to spread out tables as much as possible and suggested that family members sit at tables to keep parties from spreading germs.
But I mean, if you’re going to get up and dance/mingle then that doesn’t make sense to me but they’re just doing what they have to do to follow guidelines 🤷🏼‍♀️

Depending on your guest list, I would wait to decide on anything. I would however start making a "cut list" in case you do have to lower yourself guest count

I think it depends on where you live! We sent out our invitations a week or two ago and already have 40 people send back their response saying they are attending (not including the wedding party)!

I do not know if your January date carries special meaning but if it doesn't I would wait to plan your reception till covid is over. Entering contracts generally require a non-refundable deposit and if covid has not "gone away" by January you could end up losing money or having to postpone.

If you're anything like us, we initially said we would postpone our "big" wedding but now that we are having a small intimate wedding we are second guessing a second reception party.
