Gonna have a signature drink of rum punch and beef patties as my appietizers. Also i want to know if i just can have the traditional wedding with carribbean vibe without making it tacky

    Tammi, great menu.

Islandgirl, your food ideas sound terrific. (Too bad you're not around DC. My friend's mom runs a company called Caribbean Catering. They're from Trinidad but she's been cooking all kinds of goodness for decades!) If your venue doesn't need a licensed/ insured caterer, ask around about who does patties, ox tail, etc. from word of mouth. If you know of or patronize a Caribbean market, a hair salon, etc. people will be happy to recommend somebody, esp. if you're a returning customer to the store/salon/etc.

I always used to hear from immigrant students, coworkers, etc. about which parents in the neighborhood made the best pupusas, etc.

My dad is from Jamaica and my mom is from Barbados.. All weddings I been to had West Indian food and it's nothing tacky about it.. Buttttt because I live one place and they live another i'm not having west Indian food!!! :0(.. But they are kind of happy because it's different for them to go to a wedding that doesn't have West Indian food..

Have fun and enjoy the food! I'm sure it would be good!!! Just made some Curry Chicken last night for dinner! Yummmm!!!

I am doing a complete jamaican menu. I am from Jamaica and I could not image my wedding without incorporating some island flavor.

@kat, very sad im not there i would have her cater my reception for sure. There is two jamaican restaurants here they do cook really good food. But i think my dad would want to do it himself because hes a chef in jamaica. Then i can do my little thing in the kitche too. I just want things to turn out good. .@soon to be keels, which part of jamaica you from?

Oh yes! Both my FH and I are from Jamaica and all of our guests are Jamaican, so our menu is Jamaican as well.

But we are having other food as well because we eat Jamaican food EVERYDAY, & I think some of our guests may want something different.

Girl we would be cooking up a storm. I wanted some stew peas but my mom said that's not Jamaican "Wedding" food Smiley sad I'm also having a Jamaican Ice Cream buffet (Great Nut, Rum Raisin, & Coconut). The venue is charging me extra because they are specifically hiring a Jamaican Cook. I'm willing to pay the extra funds. I'm also incorporating my Bahamian heritage by having a Junkanoo Band and Stilt Walkers.

I saw similar baskets at Michaels it you wanted to go cheaper and make them. You can get great coupOns. I think the ones I saw were a little lighter in color though.

Jamaica has fried dumplings?? What are they usually filled with? I love dumplings like nobody's business; seriously thought FH would ask by putting the E-ring on a dumpling @ our favorite restaurant...

@Tammy, I say do what you want. I'm having some traditional Indian breakfast foods 'cause they're awesome and they won't seen breakfast-y to guests.
