Jamaica in September.... *VENT*

LovelyBride430, on July 20, 2012 at 5:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

FH wants to go to Jamaica for our honeymoon. However, from everything I'm seeing, September is the beginning of the hurricane season and most rainy in the carribean...

Trying to convince him to do Fiji or Tahiti. Don't wanna spend our honeymoon in the rain.

Hurricane season is really, really not good. Would anything else be interesting to him if Fiji and Tahiti are too far?

If he really wants jamaica, try postponing your honeymoon for march. i went back in college got spring break and there was no rain... but so hot.. so. very. hot.

@calysa, my parents went on an alaskan cruise for their 25th anniversary years ago in september... it was all old people. my parents were 50 then, and they were complaining that the whole time they were bored because there was no nightlife, so i definitely think you two are far too young for an alaskan cruise in november!

I know EXACTLY how you feel. We were looking at Orlando, then Mexico (Los Cabos) and realized the weather during that time is HORRIBLE!

As traditional as it is, we are going to the Hawaiian islands (it also helps that we live in CA, so its a 4-hour-ish flight to Hawaii). I wanted the predictability of knowing what the weather would be like when we went. Smiley smile

I have friends that went to Costa Rica and LOVED it! (but it rains a lot there in September).

You could also try Australia or New Zealand (they have cruises that tour those locations). Or, if you REALLY want to go there, hold off on the honeymoon until the weather is right, and go then (I have friends of mine that did that, they went to Europe a few months after their wedding because they got married in February).

Good luck, I'm sure what ever you choose, you will have a great time. Smiley smile

Just make sure Fiji or Tahiti is in your budget! That's what we origionally planned and then quickly went down the drain when we realized how much it would be

We did Mexico in October. The weather was a tad iffy, but no hurricanes thank God.

Fiji is far more expensive than Jamaica.

If you would like to go, make sure you purchase "Cancel for Any Reason" trip insurance and book with a reputable travel agent. This way if you see one coming, you can have your honeymoon rebooked in time. If you book the trip online, it will be far more difficult. I learned that very important lesson when my 17 year old was 12. Hurricane Dean visited during our mother/daughter vacation. Fortunately, Mexico declared a state of emergency. Otherwise, I would have been out of a few thousand. The one plus was that I did book through an agent. She had me re-booked within an hour on from the announcement.

I have been to Jamaica in November and Feb and the weather was wonderful. It may have rain 1 day while I was there in Nov but it didn't last for long. And Carole is right about the trip protection.

Two years ago we were in Jamaica in Sept-Oct. The weather was gorgeous the whole ten days except for two days on the end where they had a tropical storm go through, But I like storms so I wasn't bothered Smiley smile

I went to Jamaica in September 2009 and the weather was fabulous the whole 10 day trip. I agree with Carole, purchase travel insurance with the cancel for any reason option & go and have a good time! Smiley smile

Were going to Jamaica for our HM and we leave October 15. We do have travel insurance for this trip - if that's what you end up doing - get travel insurance...it is after all your HM...

Our honeymoon is in Cancun and we are leaving the day after the wedding, 9/2/12. So if there is a hurricane, maybe we can hang out! =)

I live in Miami, so I am pretty used to hurrincanes, tropical storms, etc. It would be awful if the whole trip was rainy, but the weather is always changing constantly, so I think we will be okay. We did buy travel insurance though, just in case.

What about Aruba? It's outside of the hurricane belt and it's relatively close in price to Jamaica.
