Just Said Yes June 2016

Jack & Jill Party is an anticipated and pretty much expected tradition in the 413 area. It's a BLAST!!

C, on September 27, 2015 at 1:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

Jack and Jill parties are the norm around here (413 area code). Friends, friends of friends, family, parents and even guys/gals the brides & groom's parents work with BUY tickets even if they are not attending. The family of the bride and groom either cook for the event or it is catered. Generally it is held at an American Legion, VFW etc. There is always good food, DJ, great raffle prizes both LARGE (think weekend get away, Weber Grill, NE pro sports tickets, etc) and lovely smaller baskets and Lottery Ticket trees. Prize tickets are sold at the door. DJ for dancing and free keg beer- sometimes open liquor bar. PEOPLE CHOOSE to attend this event because they have a great time. Yes B&G will make some money after all costs for the party are paid. In this area men do not have Stag parties anymore. MIL may hold bride a shower with only ladies who are invited to the wedding. This is not tacky here and it is a blast! Throw an engagement party AND Jack & Jill = Wicked Tacky!

Its tacky, what is the point of this post?

ALSO plz tell me how it makes any sense to pay for DJ, food, prizes etc to throw a fundraising party-- wouldn't it make more sense to save that to spent for your wedding instead of trying to make money from your guests.

Well, at least now I know not to answer any calls from a 413 area code out of principle. I probably don't want to talk to anyone who thinks this is okay.

Just because something is expected doesn't mean it is in good taste. Aren't Jack and Jill's basically fundraisers for the wedding? I don't get how it's acceptable to throw a party that you charge your friends to go to so that you can throw another party later. I'd never heard of a Jack and Jill party before WW and if I were ever invited to one I'm pretty sure I would be offended.

MrsLV - lol. Exactly! I was thinking that any 413ers on here are probably hanging their head in shame.

"Free keg beer and sometimes open liquor bar." So they buy a ticket to attend your fundraising party and then have to buy drinks all night too. No.

So, I'm also from western MA (413 area code). No offense, but it's not a tradition in this area for everyone. Maybe it is for you, but I'd never heard of it until I came onto wedding wire. I would never bring it up to be planned for my wedding because I would feel terrible to ask my family for money to celebrate my wedding day.

Anytime someone comes on and says "EVERYONE does it in my town / state / province / country", it's not true. Just because YOUR particular circle of friends and family does this, does not mean everyone does, and it does not mean that it isn't tacky or in poor taste.

It is the same argument people having cash bars will give - "but everyone does a cash bar where I live". No, they don't.

Not only are you a troll. You are a lazy troll. You couldn't even come up with an actual user name, just C. I can over you being a troll, but being lazy is where I draw the line. SMDH! lol

Julia, agreed. This started out with so much promise and failed to deliver. OP - I was banking on you to keep me entertained today. Come back, call us mean. Please anything at this point. I still have a couple of hours to kill.
