Ok, I know the significance/meaning of each. My FH and I have lived together for several years, but it's my first wedding. My brother hurt my feeling by saying "You aren't wearing white I hope". I am of the mind that it's your day and you should wear what you want. Just try on dresses you love and pick the one that feels perfect and makes you feel most beautiful!

I say to wear what color you originally wanted to. I totally understand he is your brother, however this is your wedding. I personally say go with white because in todays society the meaning behind the “white” and “ivory” dress hardly even exists.

This is my 1st wedding as well but I did not like the way white looked on me. I loved ivory though.

I would wear white just because he said what he did. Honestly, many cultures avoid wearing white because it is the color of mourning. You give the dress you love the significance it has, not the other way around. I'm sure whatever dress you choose will be perfect, no matter the color!

Don't listen to him. I bet he is the only person who thinks this way. I do not choose white just because it looks not great with my skin color and seems blueish on camera.

That was kinda rude. No one actually follows that any more. It's your day so whatever you want to wear is completely up to you. Rather it's white or new born baby pink it's YOUR day so you choose.

I agree with everyone else, where what color you feel best in. I think it's absolutely ridiculous anyone would even say that. Also I'm pretty sure white dresses came about from Royalty to flaunt there wealth because they could afford a dress that could get dirty and only be worn once, before brides just wore their nicest dress.

This is my second marriage and I am happening to wear Ivory. I didn't know before that time is really not much difference, but my dress is light Ivory, which actually looks white to the eye. Wear what you want. People who make comments like that don't know Jack about why that was even a tradition in the first place

Thanks everyone for being supportive the smiles and encouragement! I really think he didn't mean to upset me, although it did. It is MY day and will choose the color that looks best on my skin tone.

Wear what you want to wear! Your brother has nothing to do with your wedding don't let him emotionally knock you down like that! I'm getting married for the second time, I am a parent of a grown person and I'm wearing white! You do what you want to do you're paying for it and it's your day. Don't listen to the naysayers!

It’s silly! You should wear what you want to wear. I’m doing ivory, not because my FH & I have lived together for 12 years, but because I’m too pale to pull of pure white.

Wear white if you want to! It's your wedding! If only girls who were "pure" and lived with their parents until marriage wore white, there would be a lot more ivory dresses in stores!

I'm wearing a pink wedding gown. I think in this day and age, the color meanings aren't as important.

This meaning is not only outdated, but also was just for an era. There are articles of how this started because of Queen Victoria wearing a white gown for her wedding. It was a sign of wealth to wear a white dress to anything then.

Personally I think people came up with the purity thing as an excuse to wear the white dress for their wedding.

I am wearing a white dress because I loved the design and wanted a nice gown.
