Ivory 1950s veil? Fascinatior/birdcage veil? Rose Gold Veil with Ivory Dress? please help

Heather, on November 28, 2019 at 11:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Ladies - this is my first time posting here - I am unsure which veil to purchase for my dress. Vintage 40's/50's inspired look. Found a BEAUTIFUL chapel length rose gold veil that is on auction for under $10 - not sure if I should pull the trigger. Tags say it retails for $300 but dont want to get something that clashes.
Additionally I found 2 lovely mantilla style cathedral length ivory veils from the 1950s which are very ornate. I worry that they are so striking that they will distract from the beauty of my dress. I am not interested in a plain veil, and have had my heart set on a mantilla style since I saw Mandy Moore with one in A Walk To Remember. Thirdly I'm getting married overseas in a "justice of the peace" style wedding - but it is taking place in a gorgeous 200 yr old villa. Typically the full veil is reserved for a church ceremony, so I'm not sure if I should tone it down with something like a fascinator or birdcage veil?

I say get the veil you want but for that color dress i wouldn't do darker than ivory. I think rose gold (although one of my fave colors) would flash but i would have to see it together. I think mantilla style would not well with your theme. Think Grace Kelly. You have a train that's beautiful so I would do finger tip length.

Thanks for your comment Kristin. I am going to look at veils more seriously when I pick up my dress next week. I originally wanted a dress with sleeves to hide my upper arms - but didn't like the style or feel of the sleeved dresses.

I bought opera length gloves - both fingered and fingerless, as well as a body countouring piece fit for the upper arms. I am going to try all of these out to see what works best. I wanted a long flowing veil, but also something with lace detail to compliment my dress and hide my arms, in the event that I decide to not use the contouring piece and the gloves

The veil in the picture works. Go for it. I just suggest that since you have a train to get a veil with a train might be too much but try it on before making a final decision. I am sure it will look good either way.

Honestly, I don't see the harm in a chapel length! If it's sheer enough, you should still be able to see the train detail, and the length will give you a little extra drama and grace. Personally, I think the rose gold might be a little strong against the dress, but it might work because the lace is similar. I say go for the veil with the drama, be that the mantilla or the rose gold beauty.

Hey there Heather!! Welcome to the community!

Firstly, you look truly beautiful in your dress! The back is breathtaking and I love the train!

It's a great idea to wait until you have the dress before you make any final decisions about your veil.

Do you think it would be within your budget to purchase the veil in the auction since it is at such a low price? Rose gold could look amazing with yoru dress but it's definitely something that you would need to try on to be certain that they go together.

I certainly wouldn't worry about your veil being so beautiful that it will distract away from your dress. Your guests will be looking at you and your entire look, they will not focus on one aspect, but take in how everything looks together. Everything will just add to your own beauty as the bride.

A birdcage or fascinator would look beautiful, but if you have always dreamt of a mantilla style veil, then I definitely think you should get one!!

That is a valid point. But yes it would need to be sheer. I just think show off the train because the detail is beautiful. I agree about the rose gold clashing since your dress is not the same color. What about ivory or champagne detail? Maybe rose gold accessories?

I won't be able to try on the veil with my dress until after auction purchase.

The only way I'll be able to do that is if I buy something in person in a bridal boutique or in another store

Missed the biding by an hour so I lost the rose gold veil. But, I thought about what you ladies said and went for an ivory mantilla. If I fold it 1/4 then it's fingertip, but I think I'll let the full length down for an ankle length veil. 1t was marked down to $13, from $39 on Poshmark. I offered $9 for it and got this beauty!
