ISO Theme Officiant

LOTRBrideAli, on October 19, 2017 at 2:56 PM Posted in Planning 1 79

My wedding is Lord of the Rings themed. I'm looking for an officiant who resembles the description of Gandalf. Does anyone know of someone?

Update 2: After reading more of the helpful comments, what are the rules for if you just get legally married before the formal party? That way nothing is legally affected because it is just a person talking. Also attached dress photo

Update:

It is getting really frustrating when people laugh at what is our dream wedding. We don't want cardboard cutouts of characters. We will be wearing custom-made medieval-style flowing clothing and jewelry. The music is all celtic inspired, with some soundtrack mixed in. The idea is the look of the elves. Arwen and Aragorn's wedding was announced by Gandalf, so we want an older man with long hair and beard to officiate.

I try and avoid posting something that is really not in line with what people are asking for, however...

The officiant can make or break your ceremony - it's important that they know what they are doing and are confident in their role. I realize your theme is probably important to you, but this is probably not where you should lay all your cards. Far better to have someone qualified who doesn't look like Gandalf than someone who fits the bill perfectly but hasn't got a clue.

    ...well that is a first.

In terms of hair or outfit?

Seconding what Abbie said. And if it's really important to you (as strange as this is to me) you could always buy a costume for the officiant, if that is something they are willing to do.

I would prioritize your connection with your officiant rather than their look. you could ian mckellan himself perform the ceremony but he could be absolute crap or you could just not connect at all. just make sure you're keeping in mind the whole meaning behind the ceremony instead of making sure your theme comes through.

It is really frustrating when people laugh and make fun of my dream wedding. Think lovely, elvish scenery and clothing, people. Medieval styled clothing, not necessarily costumes. Celtic-style music, a lovely green garden with a large willow tree and pretty trellis. I want an old wizard-ish looking guy to officiant because the idea is that we are Aragorn and Arwen, and Gandalf pronounced their marriage.

That being said, thank you to the people who actually took me seriously and gave real criticism. I don't want the average, normal, in my opinion boring, wedding. We're nerds and proud of it. I'm not making it garish. Use your imaginations, people.

I think it might be better to find an officiant willing to wear a costume.

I am just looking for someone who can fit the description. Even an older man with long hair and a beard. I can provide the robes obviously. I'm in Palm Coast and it seems all the officiants without religion are women. We're not religious and will not insert religion into any part of the wedding, and all the male officiants appear to be religious.

I don't really want to have an officiant who is just completely wearing a costume because I don't want it to look too hokey. My fiance and I both have long hair and will be wearing custom made medieval style clothing and headwear and jewelry. We don't want it to look like a cardboard cutout.

I am willing to pay for someone who fits the general bill to get their license.

Maybe find someone and ask him to become ordained, offer to pay for it?

Ian McKellan turned down $1.5m to officiate a wedding.

    I don't think I've ever seen Celia speechless. :o

I understand you have a vision, every bride does, but sometimes we have to really think is the vision more important than it being done right?

But hey, good to know you think my wedding will suck... such a rude AF comment...

So you are willing to pay someone who has no experience officiating a wedding, literally the most important part of your wedding, because of how they look? Not only could an inexperienced officiant make mistakes in their speech during the ceremony, they could also mess up the legal aspects. Is that a risk you are willing to take?

And thank you for calling other people's weddings boring because they don't have a costumed officiant who might just be some guy off the street that you got ordained for the day.

Do you even get how backwards this is?

    ETD: Thank you Nikki.

This is the most random idea I can think of... But are there any conventions, like comic Con, nearby? Idk if LOTR is a look seen at those events, but my thought is you'll probabky find like minded people and someone who would be excited to take on this role. Even if it's not that character, I feel like there are other fantastical characters you may see that are similar and said person could be open to the Gandalf role.
