Is uplighting worth it?

Nemo, on January 30, 2018 at 2:55 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 26

So my DJ just sent email about discounted uplighting because they're trying to fill up the slow dates. It would be $195 for 10 lights in whatever color I wanted. I called and talked to the guy and it sounded interesting, but I just don't know if it really matters that much. Any thoughts or advice? They're on;y offering the deal today and tomorrow. To do it through my florist would be $300, so if it is worth it I want to grab onto this deal.

    Following!

I haven't been offered such a great deal but I'm interested in any opinions about uplighting. FH and I are on the fence about it.

It's a good price, but does your venue need uplighting? Some venues are so lovely that no additional enhancements are needed. Some venues are a bit plain and would benefit from special lighting.

How do I know if my venue needs up lighting? I bet that sounds silly but I'm honestly not sure.

I attached a bunch of pictures! Unfortunately none of them are of the full room. Our reception will be from 6-10:30 in August in Kansas so it'll get dark around 8ish?

Can I ask where in KS you're getting married? This venue is absolutely beautiful!!

We have been offered the same pricing for uplighting from the potential DJ....FH wants to do it so I guess I'll let him pick the colors ;P I personally think your space probably doesn't need it, and I'd say if you do maybe a soft white would be nice??

I think up lighting would only help make this venue even more gorgeous... it just helps set the ambiance more, You'll want to pick a color that is going to match your decor that's the only thing.

Deer Creek Golf Club in Overland Park! Are you in KS? We're using Complete Events and I've been really happy with them so far! Great communication.

Our DJ offered it in his package so we didn't have to think about it but we do have a more plain venue so the uplighting will add to the ambiance without us having to worry too much about decor on walls or anything.

Amber is really beautiful, I hadn't thought about doing something like that since the guy suggested purple like my wedding colors. This is good to think about, thank you! I think if we do it, something light and neutral like a soft white would be good for our space.

Thank you! I think we'll probably do it. I mean, at the end of the day, what's $200 when we're already spending so much, right? After googling some things, I think a soft white would be perfect for our venue.

I would definitely go with something like Amber that will complement your venue, not purple like the DJ suggested. That will give it more of a club feel and I don’t think it lives with your venue. You absolutely do not need it though, your venue is gorgeous.

I was very surprised at how affordable it was! If you go with a package option, it includes tax, gratuity, and the room rental. So we're paying $80-$90 pp (adding an extra hour for the open bar and some extra apps) for an open bar, buffet, room rental, taxes, gratuity, tablecloths, chair covers (we aren't using them), basic centerpieces if you want them, napkins, and all flatware/glassware/china. It has turned out to be a steal, especially on the Kansas side in JoCo where everything is so pricey.

I was on the fence about uplighting. We added it about a month before the wedding. We also went with amber uplighting since it was neutral. Totally worth the money, made a big difference in the room.

I would use amber or some other neutral. Purple might look too much like you are in a dance club

This is good to know! We hadn't even considered it originally since we were having a daytime wedding, but now that we've moved it to the evening it seems like it would be a good investment. I'm definitely feeling something neutral, I'm not a fan of any of the colored lights I saw on google. Don't match our vibe/theme at all.
