is this weird?

Amanda, on August 13, 2013 at 11:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

Ok I just need some opinions on this. Awhile back I asked my mom if she had anything from her wedding that I could wear for mine as my something old. The other day she gave me her garter. It could serve as my something old, borrowed, and it's blue. Is that weird to wear your mother's garter?

Thanks ladies!

I don't think it's weird but I don't think I would do it just because it would creep me out to wear something that is of an intimate nature that was on someone else...plus there's the idea that your Dad probably saw her in it on their honeymoon (if you get what I mean). I would just get my own set.

I don't think it would bug me. Idk why, but I borrowed my BFF garter for my first wedding, and her fh kept telling XH "I seen it first!!!" It was hilarious lol

I think my mother would get the same kick out I it lol. And personally I think it's touching, bc I can't think of anyone who still has their garter!

I think it's sweet that she still has something from her wedding and is offering it, go for it

Weird. FH and I are not doing a garter toss at all, though, so I'm not wearing one. Researching the origin of it was a little gross to me. I'm also not keen on FH family and friends touching something that has been on my leg, under my dress. I wouldn't wear my own and DEFINITELY wouldn't wear my mother's!

I think it's only weird if YOU think it's weird.

If you are close to your mom wear it. I personally wouldn't as I also think it's a little too intimate for me, but that it just me.

Didn't it used to be a tradition to wear your mothers garter that was passed down from her mother, etc? I could be wrong. But I think I read that somewhere lol. Anyway I don't think it's weird. I mean.. It's worn more for tradition than anything else. It's not like its her actual lingerie or something.

I wish my mother had a wedding so I could wear something from her.
