Is this too far for guests to walk?

NewMrsWesely, on April 8, 2015 at 4:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

So my iriginal idea of having my ceremony at the park by the gazebo went out the window when I realized there is not enough space for people. My other idea is now to have it in the park. The red star is where the ceremony would take place and the building with the CC on it is the Venue. Do you ladies think this is too far for guests to walk?

Are you able to map out how far it actually is? What's the age range of your guests? Are lots of them older or younger? From what I see, it looks far and could be uncomfortable for those wearing heels to walk that distance.

That is a little far. Like Katherine said it also really depends on the age of your guest as well. If they are mostly young I would think it would be fine.

What is that? Like a quarter mile?

That's too far to walk in dress shoes.

I think that is doable, but you should have a car or shuttle offer for elderly, disabled, or others who need a lift.

What is the age of your guests/what are they used to? I live and work in Chicago so that's less than I walk to work every day, but I know each group is used to something different.

So I just measured out the distance and it's less than 1k feet. There will be a few older guests but those I am guessing we can have a car pick them up and drop them off. As for the rest of the guests they will be youngerish lol(50 and younger) I am not having them walk on the side walks but the bike path that runs by the potential ceremony location to the venue.

Also no shuttle is available. This is a very small town.

A city block and a suburban block are two completely different distances. I'd find out the actual distance between the two. That looks too far for me in heels, but it's only an aerial shot. That doesn't give me a realistic distance.

What about golf carts or ATVs? If you know people who have a few you could borrow them and ask someone to make trips back and forth to take guests to the community center.

Is the bike path dirt? Or paved? And what kind of weather do you have in September? These are all things to take into consideration.

I'm of the team that if you wear heels, you should be able to walk miles in them. If you can't, don't wear the damn shoes. I think unless you have any very elderly guests it'd be fine. Just let people know in advance, on the website or something.

Technically ATV's, golf carts and such are not allowed on the streets in the town. The path is paved. The weather can be anything in MN from hot to snowing. If the weather is not working that day we will have the ceremony in the venue.

ETA: I also plan on letting people know there will be a little walk from the ceremony to the reception.

Less than 1000 feet is probably ok, but let them know ahead of time and have cars for the elderly or families with small children.

It looks like too far of walk, but it's really hard to tell from the picture.

What's the walking time on mapquest? I feel like having to cross 2 roads may be too far.

What will they be walking on? Dirt? Grass? I was at an event where we had to walk from the lot to the ceremony then to the reception site on a gravel road. It was awful. A shuttle may be a good idea. Take in to account people's ages, the weather, etc.

It looks to be quite a ways. If you have to ask then the answer is probably yes.

So according to mapquest for walking it's 6 min. This is going on the roads and not the bike path though. So maybe a 5min walk if that.

The only time the guest would walk on the grass is when they went to sit on the chairs during the ceremony. Otherwise it is all paved bike path going from the ceremony location to the venue. Also the reason I am asking is that I walk this almost every day in nice weather and used to wear heels all day long so my judgement for walking in heels is a little different from most.

That's far for elderly folk and ladies in heels. There also appears to be a major road to cross. What if the weather is crappy?
