Is this package average cost or too much for a photographer?

I understand that it depends largely where you live, I don't live in a BIG city like LA, NYC, or Chicago but I do live in the Columbus area of Ohio which is well populated and growing.

Anyway, I searched for photographers around $1,000-$1,500 but noticed that for this pricing, I couldn't find the quality and style of photos I was looking for. I found this photographer I really liked. His quote for me was
$2,100 for 9 hours of coverage, access to all raw photos, full printing rights, no additional cost for any additional raw photos I want edited, and a discounted engagement package for $200 (normally $400). Optional add on is $50 per hour for a second shooter (minimum 5 hours so this is $250). That's a long time, but more is better. We only really need about 6 hours of coverage lol.

I noticed a lot of other people I talked INCLUDE their second photographer whereas mine is another fee if I want one. ALSO, I noticed just now on his website that his BASE package is $2,000 not $2,100 like I signed on the contract so I'm not sure why it was $100 more but I'm about to e-mail to ask why is there that $100 difference.

Does this sound about right ($2,300) for the package? It would be $2550 with the additional second photographer).

That sounds about right. Most photographers I looked at were upwards of $2,000-$2,500. We got a crazy good deal on our photographer (in my opinion). We're paying $1,775 for the entire day with two photographers, engagement session, full access to all photos, and a canvas print of our favorite shot after the wedding.

I live in the Cincinnati area and this is on the higher side of normal, especially since the engagement shoot isn't included. I agree that I would have just included the second photographer and made the package $2550, but I suppose a second shooter isn't a priority for some. Our package was $2250 with an engagement session and second shooter, however, we booked in 2018 and the same package is now $2750.

Sounds about right. I live an hour outside of Chicago. My photography package is 2500 for 8 hours with 2 photographers. Like you, we could have gone cheaper but weren’t liking the quality we saw at lower prices.

That's a good deal. I felt like I searched all over WeddingWire to find someone I liked for that price but I just wanted a specific style. I'm debating if I want to shell out the money for a second photographer.

Personally, a second photographer was a must for me. Solely for this reason: photographers can't be two places at once. People say "a good photographer will get all the shots", but it's just not possible or if they do find a way, it'll be awkward angles/few photos. We're paying more for photography than anything else for our wedding.

I want photos of him getting ready and me getting ready. I want photos of décor and scenery throughout the venue and I also want a first look with my dad. I want photos of his face and my face when I'm coming down the aisle. I want photos of people enjoying cocktail hour while we're taking photos of just the two of us. Photos are the MOST important thing for me and I'm so glad we're going to have a second photographer!

I live in Cincinnati and ours is $3050 for 2 photographers for 10 hours and a videographer for 4 hours. She is a bit newer. But I really love her style.

I think that’s a lot of money for raw photos. I am spending about $3500 on photography but all of my images will be edited. It sounds like you only get edits of specific images you ask for? I find that odd.

I got quoted upwards of 4k for a similar deal lol. Dallas area though, so photographers can charge a lot. We went with an amazing photographer who gave us a pretty good deal on two photographers and an engagement session as well for closer to 2k. Super happy with our decision too.

No, not correct. I can't remember the count but I think we received like 30-50 edited photos AND access to raw photos for any additional photos we wanted edited.

Thanks all!! As usual, the community on here is helpful. I think the second photographer will be worth the splurge. I too feel photos are of highest importance since these are the memories that we will look back on over and over again.

Wow, that's a price jump! I noticed that as well. I think probably because of our population increase with the growth in our cities.

That seems super reasonable. Mine was 2000 for 2 shooters, but only for 5 hours

Still that doesn’t seem worth the money to me. Part of the reason photographers are so expensive is because of the hours spend editing. If they are not spending that much time editing then you are paying them an astronomical fee per hour to be at your wedding. I would look for another photographer that releases all images edited but maybe this is the norm in your area? In my area, most photographers refuse to even share raw photos as they want to be sure that the work they release is good quality and reflects their particular style.

I think that sounds about right! I am from Toledo, OH and our photography package was $4,250. Looking back at it I'm like...yikes what was I thinking. But I am still very excited. Our package includes 8 hour photography coverage, 8 hour videography coverage, our engagement session, and a photo booth. A videographer was very important to me so we splurged a little!

With videography it would've been another 1k. Luckily, my cousin does videos for weddings and is doing ours for only $400 lol.

That's so nice! I do think I overpaid for our package, but can't do anything about it now so I'm just hoping for the best!Smiley smile

Eh, I don't see the big deal lol. I have to sign a contract that I can't upload raw photos unless edited. I've gone through and selected more photos that I want edited. This is just for the ENGAGEMENT photos that I was referring to, not wedding. From what I gathered around the forums it seems average where people received about 50-60 top quality photos edited photos back. We got back 144 edited photos, they were good but I favorited maybe 50 of them.
