Is professional makeup a must?

So I have been contemplating if I should get my makeup professionally done or if I should just do it myself. For the brides who have got theirs done professionally, was it worth it? Does anyone have pics of their pro makeup? Also has anyone ever got there makeup done at a makeup counter in a mall or...

Same goes for any professional wedding vendor. Its the same as asking if you want to hire a professional photographer.

Why not? it's definitely one last thing to not fuss about and worth doing on the big day. I think airbrush makeup can help more than standard makeup alone so that when tears start to flow on any moments notice, you won't have smeared makeup while a videographer or photographer is capturing you.

I am having a MUA come to me and my girls on the day of the wedding. I do my makeup everyday and I am pretty good at it, but I wanted something extra special for my wedding day. On top of that, I want to look just as great at the end of the day as I did at the beginning. The only way for that to happen is airbrush. To me its totally worth spending the money.

I believe for the bride YES...

    Bridesmaids NO...

I think it's good for the bride because you don't want to be gresse and they have special cover up to cover blemishes. Unless you have the $$ to buy that kinda stuff then I would def. get my done prof.

I think I might be the only one saying this but.. I'm doing it myself. I had a HORRIBLE experience last weekend with a MUA. She had excellent reviews, and the photographs in her album looked great. However, I did not. The makeup looked like it was caked on, literally.. I could slice into the makeup it was so thick. The "dramatic" eyes looked like I either cried all night long or I asked to look like a raccoon. I'm usually NEVER speechless.. but I had nothing to say after the makeup and hair trial.. seriously.. I can do a better job with my eyes closed.

SO, anyway.. enough rambling.. I only trust myself to do it.. I'm going to practice different styles until I like something =)

I had a MUA booked. She came to my bridal suite. I just finished getting my hair done. Then at the last minute I changed my mind. I took out my everyday stuff, and did my own makeup. I"m totally a control freak.

I did it myself, it wasn't a budget issue. Makeup just isn't important to me.

Regular foundation will stay just as well as airbrush makeup. Its all in the skin prep and the type of foundations used. I use a cream not airbrush, it stays and looks like airbrushing. The tools and techniques used for application are important as well.

Cheap makeup has fillers so it breaks down and doesn't stay as well. Stay away form any makeup with SPF. SPF causes hot spots and flash back. Can make you look pasty, shiny, and white spots even though you look good in person.

Too much SPF on Eva. Its not just too much powder as the article says..

Thanks for all the advice ladies! I have my makeup trial booked and I went ahead and booked them for the wedding day so I have a slot reserved. I am excited to have my makeup done by the pros!

My mom and I used to do wedding photogapy and you would be suprised the difference a MUA makes. I am going to for air brushing for my wedding only because I have oily skin and the make up lasts so much longer then normal application.

So NOT a must- but something fun. If I had it in my budget, I'd get one- but I don't and I'm in no way broken hearted over it

Ok I may be the exception here, but I had my makeup trial and I hated it. Actually, she didn't even finish. My smokey eyes looked more like hooker eyes to me. haha.... The problem was that I did makeup for 7 years ( for Clinique) and I am very particular on how I like my makeup. So I am basically doing all my makeup except for my foundation & my lashes. She's gonna help me with those. But the other girls in my wedding are going to have her do theirs. I think over all, having a pro do it always looks better.

I did my own, but I did my research and practiced also..I got a bunch of high end makeup-mainly smashbox and laura mercier and did two trials at sephora (my local one back home doesn't do weddings though) for me that was actually cheaper..I've written before about my bad MUA experience (dirty brushes, not telling me to bring my own foundation, cutting my fake eyelashes after they were on me)..my first mua flaked out on the trial..for me I couldn't afford 50 bucks a pop plus traveling to risk on a horrible job for a trial since I live 6 hours from home and didn't want to pay to traveling each time.

So for my circumstances it was just cheaper to do my own although I probably spent almost 200ish or like 175 in total for my products..Also I wear makeup regularly so it wasn't a huge deal. I got a ton of compliments and it showed up well in pics..but like I said you need to do research and practice if doing it yourself!

Yes! I am a makeup artist and I am also on WW because I'm engaged and looking for other vendors for my wedding. Even as a makeup artist myself I will honestly tell you I am hiring a makeup artist! I think you should look glamourous on your wedding day and not have to stress about it! Shop around, there is always someone out there in your budget that does great work! And if any makeup artist is like me, I work with couples and their budget. It think it's definitely worth it!

I couldn't find a makeup artist to fit in my budget so i used the lancome counter at the mall- they happened to have their traveling make-up artist there for an event, it was free, all I had to do was buy one thing....and she did an amazing job

I plan on doing my own makeup. I am going to start early testing it out and if I am not pleased with the results then I will consider a MUA.
