Is my mom indirectly calling me fat or am I overreacting?

So my mom has been trying to convince me to get a wedding dress with sleeves since the day I got engaged. She keeps telling me that it's "classy" and "unique unlike all the other girls who have strapless" but I feel like maybe she's telling me to get a dress with sleeves because my arms are fat or...

So my mom has been trying to convince me to get a wedding dress with sleeves since the day I got engaged. She keeps telling me that it's "classy" and "unique unlike all the other girls who have strapless" but I feel like maybe she's telling me to get a dress with sleeves because my arms are fat or something? Right now I'm kind of insecure about my body and would like to lose about 20lbs before the big day. I luckily have a full year before my wedding so I'm fairly confident that I can meet my goal. I just feel like every time she says "get a dress with sleeves" she's really saying "you're fat". I know I'm probably overreacting...

    I agree she isnt calling you fat. My mom did the SAME thing but mostly cause she HATED strapless dresses (as one person mentioned they werent in style when she got married) however when we started trying them on her opinion quickly changed and we found a dress we both loved Smiley smile

    I dont' think she is saying you are fat- I think she is saying that she thinks you are too beautiful to just fit in with every other bride and that she wants you to do something different to stand out- and to her, that might be a dress with sleeves. :-)

    Don't worry! My Mom also told me she loves sleeves or some kind of straps because it is more traditional and looks "better". She also says she prefers WHITE over ivory because of tradition. Almost everything we looked at (not just dresses), she liked the opposite one a little bit better haha.

    I definitely don't think your Mom is calling you fat because of how she put it - she explained WHY she liked it. She just didn't hint at sleeves and leave it at that. =) Don't feel insecure anyways, you are beautiful no matter what. Good luck on the weight loss, but make sure you do it for the right reasons!

    2d Bride--yes my mom is around that age, she's 53. So you might be right, it might be a generational thing. By the way, you look beautiful in that pic!
