Is my dress too simple?

Stefanie, on September 17, 2019 at 7:40 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 28
I don't have a "traditional" wedding dress. It's a cotton dress that I found on the clearance rack at my local Sears on a whim. It cost $25.00!! I was shopping with my mom at the time and when I tried it on and showed her it took her breath away. My dad thinks this dress is also the one. I love it but I worry about it because it is a cotton dress. It doesn't have a train but I purchased a beautiful veil for it and a belt that adds to it.

We are having a very small intimate wedding (maybe 15 people tops) at a local conservatory. I think the floral motif of the dress matches that completely. I don't know what it is but I worry about the fact that it is a cotton dress. I have debated on adding some lace or sequins to it but my parents said it is perfect and beautiful as is. They said it's very elegant.

What do you think?

You’ve posted your dress before. I remember because I loved it then, and I still think it’s fabulous! You look so happy in it too, which is most important. I don’t think it matters what the fabric, cut or color the dress is as long as you feel beautiful. Honestly I wouldn’t change a thing about it, but you are the one who needs to love it. Maybe try putting it on with your hair and makeup similar to what you plan for the wedding, and see how you feel then. Sometimes things need to all come together so you can see the full picture.

It might not be my style, but you look so happy in it and that is what matters. I think your guests will appreciate the uniqueness of your dress and really just want to see you comfortable and peaceful. You were happy with your choice, are you actually changing your mind or just second guessing it based on what others might be doing? If it's the latter, remember we are all working on our own vision. You look great!

I think it's because I am seeing all these expensive lavish dresses on here and mine is "cotton". But you're right!! I do love it and I know FH will too!

There are many things about my wedding that are far from the Pinterest perfect images we've all seen. Who said cotton is a bad thing anyway?? I say rock that dress because it seems to scream you and that is all any of us want anyway.

It's not really my style, but you seem so happy in it! If you think it's the one, you should wear it! I don't think the fabric makes a huge difference. It looks great on you and the veil makes it more bridal. Smiley smile

I don't think there Is such a thing. Obviously if you're having a big, expensive formal wedding it may be a tad out of place but anything can be dressed up with accesories. and as long as you love it that's all that matters. I was thinking my sheath lace and silk dress was too simple too since every bride here has a big, poofy dress but honestly it's your day. It's my day. Its their day. Who cares if it's not like everyone else's. That's what makes it unique to you and your day and thats a great thing to have. Who wants an unforgettable cookie cutter wedding or dress anyway. Stand out! You do it beautifully.

I agree with other ladies here. This isn't a dress I would've chosen personally, but I've seen you post about it before and it seems like you REALLY love it! I completely understand seeing other dresses on here that make you question yours, I've had the same feeling with my dress. YOU love it, and that's what matters! Not to mention you got a huge deal on it. It looks beautiful on you! Smiley smile

Go with your gut and your heart. You saw it and it immediately jumped out at you as your wedding dress.

Nothing wrong with being unique. ❤ as long as you love it, that's truly, all that matters.
No need to second guess yourself.

I think everything looks perfect and compliments each piece so well! All that matters is how YOU FEEL in your dress. I think you look absolutely beautiful though!

Thanks. You are right. I don't know why I've become this way. I guess it's all the stress.

I mean, my $1000 fancy gown? ...100% POLYESTER! So don’t get too hung up on the materials. What matters is how you feel in it, not what’s on the tag!

You look so happy in it! And I think the belt and veil compliment it beautifully! Its hard not to have dress regret seeing all these other beautiful dresses. But that smile is so genuine and you had that moment. Don't worry about what its made out of- honestly you'll probably be more comfortable than the rest of us!

I look at it and immediately think of Hawaii. The cut, the tropical floral pattern, and the fact that it's cotton give it a traditional HI feeling. I would add some plumeria or hibiscus in your hair to complement that look. Carry a bouquet of tropical flowers and you will have a complete ensemble. So beautiful and classic!
