Is it wrong to not cut the cake?

I need a wedding guest perspective! I'm thinking about not doing a cake cutting. We are gonna have a big dessert table. If we do have a cake it will just be a one tier cake simply for the sake of cutting. But I really don't get the point so I'm thinking about dumping the tradition. When I'm a guest...

I need a wedding guest perspective! I'm thinking about not doing a cake cutting. We are gonna have a big dessert table. If we do have a cake it will just be a one tier cake simply for the sake of cutting. But I really don't get the point so I'm thinking about dumping the tradition. When I'm a guest I rarely even pay attention to the cake cutting. Is that something you would miss as a wedding guest? Is there any creative alternatives? Something that gives the guests something to see the bride and groom do together?

I don't think it's a big deal to skip it, but it is a great symbolic thing! It represents the couples' first joint effort as a married couple, and when you feed the cake to your spouse it represents your vow to provide for them!

If you've got a big dessert table with other offerings, I can almost guarantee you the cake won't be missed (nor will the cutting!)

I don't think it's wrong. I only stick around for the cake cutting because I want a slice of cake. I'm skipping it at my reception.

This is one of the things I like about wedding wire- people bring up things that I hadn't even considered (NOT cutting the cake ceremonially) and offer different ways of doing things. To me, it does seem like, time-wise, I'd prefer to spend that time visiting with my friends and family. They are mostly eating cupcakes because we just got a small cake.

I don't see anything wrong with skipping cake cutting. Most weddings aren't that traditional nowadays.

We have agreed not to do a cake cutting as well. We have been to 20+ wedding between the two of us and as guests we didn't really enjoy getting kicked off the dance floor when the party was just getting good to watch the couple cut cakes. If you do want to do it but not disrupt anything, we have also had couples share the moment privately with either themselves and photographer. Either way, its your day and if you want to cut the cake and be the center of attention(as you should and will be!) then go for it! We are also not having a cake at all and just a dessert bar.

A few months ago I went to a wedding where they didn't have a cake. They didn't have any dessert actually. I'm just noticing that now, but then I was so busy dancing that I never even thought of the cake cutting or dessert. So, no, I don't think people would notice or care.

We're having our reception in a Las Vegas Buffet and while they offered us the option to have a personalized cake, there's also a massive dessert section for everyone to choose from. Plus, we won't have any way of alerting people to the cutting so we're skipping it!

It's one of my favorite parts of the reception, personally I would miss it, but you should do what represents you and your fiancé's style.

We're skipping it. I don't feel the need to have cake fed to me, I'm an adult and can do that myself. Mostly though I just don't want to. I never watch this at other weddings and I'd rather not stop dancing and chatting to have people watch me eat.

I tried to skip this and our families threw a fit. So to compromise, we decided to do a tower of brownies with a tiny one tier cake on top to cut.

It's your wedding. If you don't want to cut the cake then don't.
