Is it weird?

I bought my dress a little over a month ago, and I've been struggling with some MAJOR dress regret. I feel like I made the decision too quickly, and the picture of me in it doesn't wow me as much as I remember being wow'd when I tried it on in the store. I have the dress, but it's at my FMIL's house...

I bought my dress a little over a month ago, and I've been struggling with some MAJOR dress regret. I feel like I made the decision too quickly, and the picture of me in it doesn't wow me as much as I remember being wow'd when I tried it on in the store. I have the dress, but it's at my FMIL's house as FH and I will be living together soon and he has no self control and will want to look at it. Unfortunately, I don't go over there without him, ever, so I can't try it on and see if the magic comes back. Is it weird to go back to the store to see about trying the sample on again?

Maybe they were just super busy? But yeah that would definitely make it feel uncomfortable if they made it seem like you were bugging them. The one I bought my dress at I went to Soo many times trying on dresses and exchanged one cause I was having huge dress regret that they now know me by name lol but I love your dress if I had a bigger budget for my dress I probably would have tried on the one you got

I hope that dress regret is normal and not weird 😂 because I've definitely had some since buying my dress at the beginning of July. I wonder if I chose the right one or if FH will love it. I think it is normal to feel this way before having alterations. I think once we get alterations and see how the dress is suppose to fit us, it will all make sense as to why we chose the dress we did!

First your dress is gorgeous! Second I felt the same way, my dress is pretty & all - but it’s not what I thought I would buy. It’s an a-line not a ballgown & I always thought that it would be a ballgown - but I hated the way that the ballgowns looked & more importantly how heavy they were on me. I felt like the dress was wearing me, not me wearing the dress.

It's possible, Once they agreed to let me try the dress on we weren't rushed, so that was nice. (Probably because they realized I might actually buy it xD). I can't exchange it, my parents paid for it as a gift and I feel like that'd be super rude to them, especially since they live so far away. Right now I'm just hoping I fall back in love. I remember how excited I was about this dress. I couldn't talk about anything except that dress for 2 weeks after I bought it, it felt like I was on cloud 9. I don't know what changed. When I tried it on at home, I felt like it made me look fat with huge hips, even though I know it's mathematically impossible to be fat in a size 2 dress, it was weird, especially since it was actually a little bit too big. It's very confusing, really.

I got really lucky with my dress. I didn't know my mom was planning on paying for it, so my budget was pretty low. I found a dress I liked in my budget but it didn't have the right neckline and it didn't have a train. I don't know why I feel so weird about the dress now, when I tried it on in the store, my reaction was "it's perfect". It was an almost perfect marriage between the two dresses I was torn between. I had liked a SUPER white (whitest dress in the store, my stylist informed me), beaded ball gown with a straight folded neckline and a poofy tulle skirt (without a train), and a beautiful ivory full a-line dress with a sweetheart neckline, lace detailing on the bodice that trailed down throughout the skirt ending with a lace trim at the bottom and a long train. The ONLY thing I loved that it's missing is detailing around the bottom of the skirt. I don't know what my problem is xD.

I hope so! I tried asking FH for recommendations for what he might like to see me in (to kinda use as a tie breaker in case I fell in love with a few dresses and one had an element he really liked while the others didn't or something) all he gave me to work with was "white and weddingy" so who really knows xD. He claims that he'll think it's the most beautiful dress in the world, no matter what it looks like, because I'll be wearing it. We shall see.

I've got a year and a half to wait before I can get started with alterations D: It's going to drive me crazy if I wait until then to make sure I still love the dress as much as I did when I tried it on in the store, lol.

    First, thank you Smiley smile

I can understand that. I put on one ball gown that had to weigh about 30 pounds, it was made of a super dense material. It was a gorgeous dress, but the skirt was so thick it kinda felt like an expensive curtain. Probably perfect for a winter wedding when it's really cold out. This dress is actually surprisingly light considering how much material there is. Even the size 4, which was definitely too big, stayed up without being clipped (although clipping DEFINITELY helped with a lot) . I tried on an a-line as well, and it was my 2nd choice dress, and is actually one of 2 dresses that is causing a lot of this hang up I'm having right now. I wanted to feel like a princess on my wedding day, and I wanted a big dress. I like the freedom of a-line and ball gown dresses, I just happen to wear a-line dresses for everything and when am I gonna get a chance to wear a ball gown again? I tried on a mermaid dress and they had to help me onto the pedestal because I couldn't lift my leg up high enough, that was an automatic disqualifier for me even though it actually looked pretty good.

In fact, that IS what I'm going for. I have a gorgeous little tiara and everything. I remember how much I loved the dress, raved about it for 2 weeks, wanted to talk about it to everyone who would listen, showed the picture to anyone who would look, and then after those 2 weeks, something changed, and I don't know what happened. Hopefully going back in to look at it will rekindle that spark I originally felt.

Will you need to get the dress hemmed? I found out that if you need the dressed hemmed and it has details that will need to be moved up that it's an extra 90 dollars, I'm 4'9 so I had to take that into consideration when picking out dresses to try on. For my dress just for the hemming was 200

I did think about that, it will definitely need to be hemmed, the skirt is SOOOOO long (although some of that might be because it needs the slip which will shape it and poof it out a bit, so I'll have to see just HOW too long it is. The a-line with the detailing was only a little bit too long and I was barefoot so it actually might have been fine (I'm planning on wearing 4" heels).

I'm considering adding some beaded detailing to the bottom of the dress when I start alterations, but I'll have to see how it looks.

Did you just pay for it/order it, or did they already make it for you? If you ordered ahead, they might give you your deposit as credit towards a dress. I called and asked what the latest I could pick out my dress, to have it come in time for alterations, and I went that weekend. I also went to two stores. Shame on your stylists for making your experience any less than magical!

My first engagement (I didn't get married) I tried on a ton of dresses, and still had regrets. This time I really listened to my heart because I know I'm a second-guesser, and did a LOT of research beforehand. I also tried on a dress in every cut/style, even ones I didn't think I'd like. I don't think I'd have had the strength to stop looking almost 2 years ahead of time! Good on you, Erin!

And I remember your post from a week ago. You were so excited about your dress, and it looks so beautiful on you! I image you could wear any style, though 😊

I ended up with one that is lavender...even though it's weird, I'm a color girl.

Of course, everything I say is useless if you already got it. In which case, focus on how beautiful you look! It definitely checks the "white and wedding-y" boxes.

I do have it already, we paid in full before leaving the store, and it arrived 3 weeks later. I was SO in love with this dress a week ago, I have no idea what happened or what changed. It makes no sense, one of life's greatest mysteries.

Well it does look beautiful on you! And if you don't have the budget for another one, just focus on the fact that you look great, and your fiancé is going to be stunned

I went back in today to look at my dress with the slip and a different bra. They did some whispering about me, but nothing beyond that. I worked with the manager (who sold me the dress in the first place) who was very helpful. It was like night and day. It looked so much better! The slip helped so much and it was the smaller of the ball gown slips.

I exchanged my A-line dress for the mermaid I had been thinking about for a week after buying the dress. DB completely understood and mt consultant even remembered me.
