Is it weird?

Erin, on July 31, 2019 at 1:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 36

I bought my dress a little over a month ago, and I've been struggling with some MAJOR dress regret. I feel like I made the decision too quickly, and the picture of me in it doesn't wow me as much as I remember being wow'd when I tried it on in the store. I have the dress, but it's at my FMIL's house as FH and I will be living together soon and he has no self control and will want to look at it. Unfortunately, I don't go over there without him, ever, so I can't try it on and see if the magic comes back. Is it weird to go back to the store to see about trying the sample on again?

I had a meltdown a couple weeks after I ordered my dress. It's been 3 months since. I've chilled out. So I think its normal feeling.
Go if you want. I had a friend who I swear tried in dresses in the same store 6 times before she ever ordered. They're probably used to it.

I had to practically beg them to let me try it on in the first place as I didn't have an appointment (I'm exaggerating, but I did say please a lot). I'll probably feel fine if I can see it with a ball gown slip underneath it to fill the skirt out (that's my major problem with it. The skirt in the picture I have looks horrendous to me now) but it's hard to envision it at the moment.

Just remember even if you can’t try it on right now, you picked that dress for a reason. Try to remember the happy and excited feelings you had when you picked it. Focus on what you can control for now. Have you picked out your accessories? Work on finalizing your look and it’ll come together in your head.
I had the same problem, my dress was at my mom’s house almost 4hrs away and it felt surreal getting it back and holding it again!

I'm going through the same struggle right now! I bought a discontinued dress and was so in awe when I bought it I didn't look it over and when I went back to the store recently I found a lot of seams are unraveling so a lot of alterations will need to be done to hopefully correct this. I can't return or exchange the dress nor do I have extra money to go and buy a new dress. I'm trying to look at my pictures of when I bought it and find things about it that I remember being so in love with and as to what made me feel like a bride. You're definitely not alone here! I'd go try it on again if you can and just think of how it will look when everything is how you envision. I keep telling myself it will all come together by the big day!

I have my tiara, and my necklace. I don’t have a bracelet and earrings yet. Its hard to picture sometimes. I remember how happy and excited I was, I had “the moment” where I just knew it was right. Then I saw the pictures of my in the 2 dresses I had been torn between before I found this one. And I felt like I looked prettier in both of those dresses than I look in the one I bought. The one I bought was a near perfect mixture of the 2, but it’s missing the detailing on the bottom of the skirt that I had loved about the other dress. I was thinking about seeing if I could add some kind of beadwork to the bottom of the dress or something.

I’m sure your dress is gorgeous! I went to one of those off the rack stores and they had some dresses that I liked, but a lot of them had been tried on so many times pieces of them were falling off and seams were unraveling and all that. I decided I’d be better off ordering something new because the alterations for those dresses to fix them would have been insane.

Adding beading to your dress would be a great choice! Easier than buying a second dress. I’m sure picking out some sparkly jewelry will also make it come together.

I think it makes sense you'd want to try it on again. I've tried on my dress before my wedding a handful of times ahah. Your dress is pretty by the way

I asked my mom to send me any pictures she has of the dress from my appointment, some them are better. I made a bridal follow up appointment for Friday morning. Hopefully i can see what the dress looks like with a slip and maybe a corset bra or something instead of a regular strapless bra.

Unless your FILs hate you, it's time to jaunt on over there on your own. 🤷‍♀️ just go without him.

My FIL’s and i are actually super chill xD I’m the 1st person my FH has dated that they actually liked lol but it’s still super weird to go over there by myself even though they said I could. I’ve known them for 3 years and I’ve only been over there by myself once lol.

That’s what I’m planning to do on Friday. I broke down and made a “comeback appointment” and I’m gonna ask to try it on with the slip.

I’ve been feeling exactly the same!! I find myself still looking at other dresses on Instagram thinking “man....did I settle?” I was fighting back tears when I chose my dress, so I keep reminding myself of “The feeling! The feeling!!” I am keeping mine at my MOH’s house and keep thinking I need to try it on again....I know exactly what you’re going through!

Those feelings will come back when you begin alterations appointments and are going through the process of getting the dress altered and customized to fit you perfectly.

It’s honestly the worst xD. It’s he only dress I tried on that brought tears to my mom’s eyes and I raved about it for 2 weeks straight to anyone who would listen. It was only in the week before it was delivered that I started to feel weird and then I tried it on and it was just kinda eh, but my apartment is really small and the dress was so big it barely fit in my living room xD so that probably didn’t help.

I went without an appointment when i found the dress i bought (my mom was looking for her dress and we browsed for a bit) and it was like I was asking so much to try the one dress on in the first place, like it was a nuisance for them to let me and they had to be assured it was just the one dress. I decided to just make an appointment and make life easier for myself.

I hope so, unfortunately it’ll be about a year and a half before I can start alterations.
