Is it weird to wear a white wedding dress to post elopement reception???

MLTBVP, on June 19, 2017 at 7:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

My FH doesn't want to do a ceremony but is ok with the idea of signing papers at the city hall with our immediate family in tow and a lunch or dinner following. Then 1-3 days later we will have a party for all our friends and family (160 people) with DJ, open bar and sit down dinner. It will be a semi formal event. I'm happy with it.

Anyways, I am very lucky and my uncle makes custom wedding gowns (see Jean-Ralph Thurin Luxury Bridal Design House). He is making me a shorter white Audrey Hepburn-ish dress to wear at the court house for when we "elope" and then sketched out a ballgown for the reception. I love both dresses, but lately am wondering if it is odd to wear a wedding dress to a party 1-3 days after the fact? I feel like people will judge.

Host your event graciously, wear whatever you WANT! I think that sounds fabulous and amazing. I've always wondered for things like this (which I kind of wish we had planned on) do you still register, have a shower, do a first dance, cut a cake, etc.?

I feel like I can still register. . . I hope, lol. We are still providing meal and food and a good time to our guests. We probably will plan a night out with our close close friends in place of a bachelor/bachelorette party even tho we aren't having any groomsmen or bridesmaids. FH doesn't want a first dance, or speeches but I told him theres no way our parents are going to not say anything. But we wont have maid of honor or best man speeches. I wanted to do a short greeting when people first arrived and think it would be nice to thank folks for coming. I also think FH will get caught up in the atmosphere once it happens, a cake cutting or first dance could work their way in there Smiley winking

Second the go for it idea! I am sort of re-wearing my dress under similar circumstances. We are eloping and I am wearing separates to my actual wedding. I will wear the corset top with jeans to one reception, and my silk skirt with a sweater to another (two receptions - one in each of our home towns).

My cousin wore the same dress for her DW ceremony as the reception she had back at home.

I'm getting married in South Africa in July of next year and having my reception 2 months later, and I'm wearing my dress for sure!

It's you and your husband's day! Wear what you want! It's still a wedding celebration! Youre still the bride! Go for it!

I'm doing something similar, and I am for sure wearing my dress to the reception (mine is 2 weeks later). I'm pretty sure I won't have many opportunities in my life to wear something that fancy, so I'm taking full advantage.

I'm doing very close to the same as you. With a ivory dress.
