Is it weird to have a maid of honor and a matron of honor?

I have a maid of honor and a matron of honor. They are great together. I am lucky I have a group of people who are super laid back. Some people have problems with the dynamic. But what's the relationship between your sister and friend? That's something to consider.

The term Matron means married woman. The term maid is an unmarried woman. Otherwise they are interchangeable. If you have two attendants whom you have known longer or feel closer to than the other bridesmaids you give them the title M__ of Honor. you may have 2 Maids if both single, two Matrons if both married, or a Maid of H and a Matron of H if one single and one married. Any combination is fine, but the choice Matron or Maid is determined by their marital status. Several examples people have given are incorrect.

I’m currently matron of honor in my best friend’s wedding along with another friend who is maid of honor. Its not weird at all, and I think we were both relieved she didnt attempt to choose between us!

I had a maid of honor (my little sister), a matron of honor (my sister-in-law), and 5 bridesmaids (my closest friends)! Since my sister-in-law was already married, it was a really easy way for me to give both of our sisters a position of honor! 💕
