Is it weird that i don't want a bridal shower?

Ashley, on February 11, 2020 at 1:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
I've gotten some negative feedback for suggesting I don't want a bridal shower. I've never been into showers and just find them awkward and uncomfortable. Not to mention bridal showers today are way over the top. I'm already spending a lot of money/time planning the wedding and would rather put the money/decor/planning towards that instead of the shower

Normally the bride doesn't plan and host her own bridal shower though. But I don't think it's weird you don't want one. I've seen plenty of brides not have one because of time constraints and it is a lot of attention

The bride doesn't host her own shower, but that aside, it's completely fine for you to not want one.

The bride never throws her own shower. Usually it is an aunt, MOH, mom, sister etc. Regardless, it is find that you don't want one or have one.

Omg!! Me too.... so don’t feel bad and I will continue to not have one... it’s just way too much and over the top! NOW what I will do is get a hotel room the night before and maybe have my girls come over and chit chat and maybe some ideas or whatever and have drinks and finger foods but other than that!! That’s about it!

I didn't want one in the beginning but my mom wanted to host one so I had one, I was happy I did and had a lot of fun. If someone offers and you don't want one, just politely refuse.

Not weird at all. I don't want one; I told my mom, and bridal party and they were fine with that. As PP mentioned just politely decline or let them know in advance that's something that you don't want to do.

I turned down having one even though my mom graciously offered. Our guests were from coast to coast and she wanted to invite some local friends not invited to the wedding.

I hate opening gifts in front of people. I find it uncomfortable and honestly rude. Gifts shouldn't be a competition and I feel like showers turn into that. So instead of a traditional shower, my mom and bridesmaids are throwing me a bridal tea! I still get to spend time with loved ones and celebrate without it being all about gifts!

I did something similar for my best friend. All of the girls went to a cooking class! It was so so so much fun! Everyone told me it was the best "shower" they have ever been to.

Already told my MOH that I do not want one. Saves everyone some money. Especially, since my MOH and one bridesmaid have to travel to where we are located.
