Is it weird? (no maid of honor/bridesmaids)

Amber, on January 21, 2014 at 12:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

For our wedding, I don't have any close friends or even female family members (I'm the only girl out of 14 boys in my family) He's got best man - Groomsman but I'm not really interested in having bridesmaids or maid of honor . And even if I was, there are no women. I thought about asking a co-worker but then there's that complication of both of us getting off of work... Obviously I would, but theres no guarantee she would.

If you went to a wedding where there was best men and grooms men but NO maid of honor or brides maids, would you think that was pathetic? I dont want to feel weird and like people are judging me on my day lol

All we're having is a Flower Girl and a MOH. No groomsmen, he couldn't pick just one friend and didn't want to offend anyone else.

Honestly I'm having a Man of Honor rather then a Maid of honor - my best friend next to my FH is a guy I've known for the last ten years and am close to. I have one bridesmaid - a good friend who lives in FL and is a college student like me. Everyone else is guys in mine - no flower girl or ring boy. Though I've considered asking some - it could change.

I agree that it might look odd. Either have no groomsmen or if your FH really wants them, have them play the role of ushers and then sit down during the ceremony. If you don't want anyone standing up for you, then don't! Otherwise, you could always ask a close male relative or friend to stand up for you as a man of honour.

I asked my sister to be the MOH, but originally I just wanted her to be a witness (we need two, FH's dad is the other) but since she is helping out so much and I think it's important to her, I asked her to be the MOH. Other than her and her daughter as the flower girl, we don't have a bridal party. So much less stress to deal with too! My sister is picking out her own dress and I don't have to deal with any bridesmaid drama.

A friend of the family got married last august and she had her 3 brothers stand up on her side. She was the only girl out of 4 kids, and the oldest. The wedding party was all men except for the bride, but it made sense. Growing up, those 4 kids were inseparable. Why not have some male family friends stand up on your side?

IMO, I don't think wedding parties have to be even, but I do think that there should either be people on both sides or no wedding party at all.

I would definitely think it looks weird, but I wouldn't say pathetic.

With all of the bitching that goes on from brides with bridesmaids, I'd say its a smart idea. I still haven't chosen all of mine

I'm not into the idea of having a wedding be a certain way because "that's the way it's supposed to be." But I do think it would look lopsided to have a bunch of people to your left, and no one to your right. There's no reason to restrict yourselves to having men on one side and women on the other though. "You have a penis, you must stand here. You lack a bulge in your pants, go to the other side!" Just have men on both sides.

You are not REQUIRED to have a bridal party. I have seen many small weddings where there is only a best man simply because they needed a witness.

We were about to have my brother stand up on my side, or uneven sides until my FH finally fessed up that he would love it if I asked his younger cousin. Never thought of her as a BM because she wasn't on my side of the family.
