Is it tradition to dance with the groom's father?

ChristinaS, on May 25, 2016 at 9:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

I've read different things on whether you do or don't dance with the groom's father at the wedding. Thoughts?

I didn't dance with my father in law.. I didn't think it was a thing. Although I did dance with my husbands grandfather, but that happened organically and was not planned.

I haven't heard of this. If you want to, do it! Maybe your FH could dance with your mom? If you don't want to, then don't do it.

No not a tradition. My brother did the extra Dances of mother in law/son in law, and daughter in law/father in law and while it's sweet it's all a lot of dances to sit through on top of the other ones.

I don't think it's a tradition. But I think he will be my father/daughter dance since my dad passed away 5 years ago.

I've seen this and the groom dancing with his MIL. However, FFIL and I have a rocky relationship...so no.

Don't think it is traditional, but who says you have to follow rules? It is your day, so do whatever makes you comfortable!

I don't think it should be added to the spotlight dances, it can be done through the evening. The last thing guests want to sit through is more spotlight dances.

I've never heard of it. I will not be dancing with FFIL. He has been such a dick with his snide comments. Not really directed at me, but I have very little to do with him.

Not as a spotlight dance, but you could certainly dance with him at some point during the evening.

I was thinking the same, it's not a 'special' spotlight dance, but if my FFIL asks me to dance, I'll cut a rug with him!

I've never heard of this. If you want to do this then go ahead. If not then don't worry about it.

I have seen it happen at weddings but never as a spotlight dance. Usually just happens naturally if it does.
