Is it tacky to have a wedding registry/bridal shower if you already live together?

Honest question. Somebody asked me when I was having my bridal shower, and I hadn't really thought about it. I made a registry because TK told me to on my wedding checklist, but honestly I forgot about it and didn't expect anyone to buy me anything, because we already live together. There are things...

There are things we still need and have put off buying..

We live together and I'm doing one because there are a lot of things we could use, like matching dishes and a kitchen aid mixer Smiley smile

I don't think so at all; a vast majority of my couples live together (like 90% of them) and I'd think there would be some things you both brought to the party that you'd like to replace...you probably have two of lots of things, none of some things, and few things you'd just like to put at the curb.

Don't do a honey moon "romantic activity' registry; the overwhelming sentiment is that it's tacky.

T word. Sorry. but it is.

FH and I have lived together for 2 years....we registered and had a shower. Most of the stuff we each brought into the relationship wasn't of very good quality and pretty much sucked. So we registered for upgrades

We have lived together for 6 years. We have some hand-me-down household items, some stuff still from our college days (read crappy microwave), and some nice stuff that has been gifted to us for Christmas and b-days (our pots and pans and vacuum cleaner). We still made a registry for things that we'd like to upgrade (bed linens), replace (that crappy microwave), or items we would like but wouldn't buy on our own (matching bathroom set of shower curtain, rugs, towels, etc and kitchen linens). I have had some people offer to host a shower, so I knew we needed a registry.

A lot of our things need to be replaced or upgraded so we did a registry. Even if we don't get everything on our registry at the shower, we're using it as kind of a checklist.

I guess I'm different from everyone else. I've always viewed a bridal shower as a means of helping out a newlywed couple fill a new house, since they're just starting out. I've been married twice and I never lived with either man ahead of time. With the first marriage, I had been in my own for a while and I had everything we needed, so I opted not to have a bridal shower. With my second marriage, we were combining 2 households and again had everything we needed so we didn't have a shower either. I don't mean to insult anyone out there. I'm just giving my personal opinion. I don't feel like people "deserve" gifts just because they're getting married. I personally find it a little tacky to use a new marriage as an excuse to upgrade things that the couple already has. I had a co-worker who had lived with her fiancee for 10 years and had bought 2 homes with him. When they finally decided to get married, they registered for some upgrades, plus things like a Chi flat iron, a flat screen TV and exercise equipment (to name a few). I don't mind helping someone get started, but I don't buy wedding gifts in those situations described above. I don't like feeling that the bride and groom think everyone owes them a gift just because they decided to finally get married. Again, that is MY personal opinion and I'd never give that opinion unless asked. Everyone else can do what they want. It's their business and their money. 🙂
