Is it stupid to have a photographer for a smaller bridal shower?

Must Love Cats, on April 21, 2017 at 10:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

Earlier in the month I met with a MUA and photographer for my upcoming bridal shower. My step-cousin is getting married the day of my shower (I had no idea he was getting married this year) which means my stepmom and her 4 family members won't be there for mine. Since the list know looks like it could be 15-20 people is it stupid to have one still? The pros I can think of are having memories, individual photos of the women I love and me, and a group shot of me and my bridesmaids as there is not one of all of us. Would you still carry on with the photography or cancel?

I wouldn't do photography or a MUA tbh. They're both a waste of money for a shower (even a large one)

I've honestly never heard of a photographer coming to shoot for a bridal shower, if it's in your budget that's cool, but at bridal showers in my area, we just take our own photo's. Is this something someone is setting up for you?

I've never been to a bridal shower with a pro photographer. If you can't think of any better way to spend the money, go for it, but won't these women all be at the wedding? You could get pro photos then. Most bridal shower photos are snapshots

Nothing is stupid if you want it and can afford it. I've personally never heard of having a photographer at a shower, especially when everyone has a smart phone with a camera. Not sure that a photographer will have much to do with 15-20 people, and there really isn't a lot of different activity going on to warrant it for more than a half hour. Seems like you could be doing something better with the money that will cost, but of course, that is totally subjective. It could also be intrusive to have a photographer at such a small and short event. Most of the time, people will be eating/drinking.

Remember, you will get all the photos you want of these people and more at your wedding.

Given all this, if you still want a photographer, go for it!

I think it's a great idea if you want to do it! I wish I had some professional pictures from my shower! My sister took some pictures, but it took her a looong time to get them to me Smiley smile

First of all, it definitely isn't stupid to have your makeup done for your shower. Nothing wrong with looking fabulous if you're comfortable wearing makeup. Also, some people use that as the day of their trial.

Second, I did have a pro photographer for my small bridal shower (roughly 25 guests), but it was something my MOH arranged/gifted to me and I didn't know about it until day of. I knew who she was, she's young and just starting out.

Since you should be leaving the planning up to the hosts, I wouldn't hire a pro photographer if I were you, but it's nice if the host arranges that.

If I ever host a shower for someone, I think I would do that if the price was right.

MUA is a makeup and hair stylist. I want to feel pretty so that's why I got one. I already signed a contract but we didn't have the hours down. It's popular in my city. Maybe I'll just cut the original hours talked about by an hour. I have seen photos done by phones and they are horrible. I saw photos of a friend's bridal shower I wasn't able to attend last year and there is not one clean clear shot. All were blurry.

@gym rat you have to admit a pretty blow out and makeup done does wonders for your mood when you have any special event.

I wouldn't do a photographer or an MUA that just seems like I total waste of money to me. But to each their own. If you have money for it go for it. BTW; you can make yourself feel pretty by doing your own makeup, I'm sure you're not that poor at it!

I have never actually seen either, and depending on when your shower is happening, it may be hard to find a pro photographer for a couple of hours in prime season.

I don't think it's necessarily stupid, it will, obviously, cost.....

If anything, have a friend or family member take pictures. You don't need anything extravagant

@Must Love Cats - then those people just have shitty smartphones. I have lots of photos from my guests that didn't come through blurry.

Anyway, it's nice that you'll have a pro photographer. Even more of a reason to have your makeup done lol. Can't wait to see your BAS.

I do not think its dumb. If you can afford it and you want it do it! If its a strain I definitely wouldn't bother. I will be doing both for mine. My shower isn't necessarily small I'm expecting about 60 guests. But I will have a photographer there to capture my special moments and My makeup will be done is will.

I don't think its stupid, to answer your question. In my opinion it is not necessary as I'd rather use the funds that I'd have used for that in other ways..... However, if it's in your budget, and you want it - go for it!!

You know what, I decided to hire a photographer for my bachelorette party because it's one of those events that I will always think I'll take a bunch of pictures, and then never actually do!

If you're willing to pay for it, I say go for it! It's worth it to have some nice photos of the event.

I had a friend of mine with a professional camera for our engagement party and I'm so glad he took many pics for us because they came out so nice.

If you can afford it, do what you want. I've seen photographers as baby showers before.
