Is it really a honeymoon if you don't take it for a couple months after?

Rachel, on September 15, 2010 at 11:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

FH and I are considering waiting to take our honeymoon during one of the cold months. Will it still seem like a honeymoon or will it feel more like "just a vacation"?

At my first marriage, we could not find a rabbi who was available during the only two-week period I had off from school. (I was working full-time and going to law school even during the summer session.) We therefore got married June 26, and took the honeymoon in mid-August. I actually found that it worked very well. We had some time to decompress from the wedding preparations and ceremony before we went off on our honeymoon.

I think it's what you make of it. FH and I unfortunately can't afford a honeymoon. Plus we'll be spending time with family visiting the week after the wedding that are staying in town. We will at least find a nice hotel or something to stay the first couple nights after the wedding. I don't really consider that a honeymoon though. We will have to do a romantic getaway later.

I think it will still feel like a honeymoon. I'm facing a similar situation because we have such a crazy schedule... the weekend I want to get married we can't take a honeymoon directly afterward. I think we'll wait two weeks then go. Personally I think it'll give us something to look forward to and draw out the fun!

A honey moon is really only a honeymoon cause people call it that.

it really is just a vacation so of coarse it can be your honeymoon!

and dont say things like 'we are going on a vacation' i think if you say honeymoon, it will help you feel more honeymoonish.

FH and I have already discussed waiting a year or two before going on a proper honeymoon. I believe that whenever the two of you say, "We're going on our honeymoon," then, congratulations! You're on your honeymoon.

We decided to take only a couple of days after the wedding to go away and then around Spring Break we will have a longer romantic getaway/honeymoon. At first I felt the same that it might not be the same taking a delayed honeymoon but now I am glad because I teach and it is stressful taking time off from school and I know we will be tired after the wedding. Taking it later means less stress and more time and more enjoyable rest.

We are waiting a week after ours and i think it will just draw out the fun and excitement a little longer. we will be so tired after the wedding we wont have to get up super early the next day to board a flight and can enjoy a week of being newly weds before we go.

Absolutely...we took ours a year after our wedding because at the time I was still in school. It was the first time we were able to get away. So yes...it is a honeymoon. Being in the biz, we see folks taking their honeymoon at a later time...it is more common than you may think. Congratulations and good luck!

I'm sure if you do all the romantic things you would do on a honeymoon it will feel like one... whatever you make of it... DH and I got married 8/14/10 and we aren't taking our HM till March of 2011, we wanted to go when it was cold, and we didn't have enough time off from work to take it this year...

ABSOLUTELY! We wre married August 7th, and won't take our honeymoon until April 2011! We had what I call a nin-moon though. We went on a 9 day holiday to go to a friends wedding in another province, it was nice to have that time alone after all the wedding stress (weddin gplanning stress 2 days, day of and day after, nO stress at all!), well, mostly alone, there were a bunch of other friend, there also, that we hung out with alot, but we did, stuff just us two!
