Is it possible to have a wedding under $10,000 in NJ/NYC?

Joanne, on May 18, 2016 at 6:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 40

I want to invite 100 people. I really can't justify dropping $30,000 on ONE night when it can go towards a house, etc.

Do I really have to settle for just having it at a park, etc. to make this happen?

My sister is getting married in nj, and I'm shocked at the price differences. Are you close enough to pa to get married there?

I'm getting married in an area that is much less expensive than NYC and I could never host 100 people for that much. Cut your guest list!

Short answer? No, it's not possible.

If you want to go the traditional route, you are looking at $80-$150 per person for the lower end of the spending spectrum. That's for food alone. Then you have to get a photographer, DJ, dress, etc.

If that budget is for venue only, sure you could probably find that. All in? Probably not.

Again, I'm saying this for a traditional wedding.

Yes. But small small guest list. Edit. Saw the 100 guests. Hell no. i started roughly at 4-5 being our ideal number for 15 guests. I'm up to 28 guests and about double that. Fortunately we can spend that but we didn't want to. Upside. We are throwing a really nice party lol

For 100 people? Doubtful. Maybe like 30.

For reference, here is a breakdown of a 10k budget wedding in nyc for 65 people. Prices will be higher, as this was a wedding held in 2009. They also only gave chairs to 10 elderly guests - everyone else stood, which I definitely dont recommend.

You will need to cut a lot along with your guestlist - no big white wedding dress, lunch or brunch reception at a restaurant, no dj/dancing or flowers, no wedding party, ceremony at a park.

Of course it's possible - it just may not be what you first imagined.

Definitely not for 100 people. Cut your guest list.

edit: Actually, if you do a lunch/brunch reception maybe. You can do it for under $30k, but definitely over $10k. We're a little over $20k including honeymoon and we didn't choose an all-inclusive. The state park we're getting married at has so many rules, regulations and fees that it really doesn't make much of a difference in price and it's WAY more work.

Save as much as you can, cut down your guest list and go all inclusive. The little things really start to add up. Where in NJ are you? There is a huge difference in South Jersey venues than North or Central rates.

No. Cut to 30 and it's possible.

You're also talking a year and a half away, in prime season. No bargains to be had.

Thank you guys! It is so hard to cut when these are 100 people that we actually do talk to on a good basis. This was already after cutting down from 200.

Thanks guys for the advice! I may look to travel to PA if it is cheaper there.

Also looking into beach weddings in Florida as I get a 10k wedding, but the hassle to travel I'm not sure if it is worth it.

I will have to do my best to cut down to 75. It is a long time away, but I just wanted to start saving.

For that location, no. You need to cut the guest list or up the budget.

Nope. We are doing brunch for approx. 100 guests in NYC and I thought we could do it within $20k. Turns out I was wrong.

I suppose if you cut your guest list, and maybe did something simple like at a restaurant, you'd have a better shot at that $10k mark.

I'm in NC and I don't think I could host 100 people for $10k. Unless you want to do mid-afternoon cake and punch, I would say its not possible.

For 100 people? No. We live fairly close to PA (FH's parents also have a house in the poconos so we visit often) and booked our wedding there to save money. Depending on the choices you make, you may still pay a lot. We originally budgeted 20-25k for 100 guests, and we now have 90 guests and are between 25-30k. Our inclusive venue is definitely less than comparable venues in NJ, but it is still over $100 pp. Our only other PA vendors are 2 different bakeries and our florist. The florist and 1 bakery seem like a bargain to me. The second bakery is about the same price wise as bakeries I've used in Northern NJ but she does specialty work that our primary bakery cannot do to my satisfaction. We hired NJ photographers and a videographer who covers NJ and FL, which honestly didn't save us much if anything. Looking back, I think we could have spent about the same in NJ if we pinched more pennies and maybe used services like thumbtack. The point of this post is, no matter where you book and host your wedding, you need to be smart about your budget. You can't have a 30k NJ wedding for 10k in eastern PA unless you are extremely budget conscious every step of the way.

Ditto everyone else. A wedding with dinner and dancing and bartender and a DJ and a white dress and a bridal party...unfortunately no. costofwedding.com will help you out a lot.
