Is it okay to skip the reception program?

The Sealpups, on February 17, 2019 at 6:06 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

I'm planning to have our ceremony at church and then our reception at a venue nearby. For church, we'll definitely have programs. For the party, I'm thinking of ditching it altogether. My fiance and I are very "in the moment" people; his family are opposite and like to rush things. I think wedding guests will expect the same outline for weddings - dinner, speeches, dances, cake, bouquet toss, dancing (in general). I would hate to see any guests look through their program and say, "oh it's 7:30. We're supposed to do this by now."

What we are planning on doing is having a poster that shows the wedding party with our welcome sign. Our "centerpiece" decoration (for each table) will include a small postcard of demographics showing our "love story" and menu.

Thoughts?

I think it’s perfect! We are doing programs for the ceremony and not for the reception, and I think it’ll work well.

I’m not doing programs for either. I think you can do what you’d like when it comes to programs!

I've never seen a reception program. It seems like a very odd thing to have. You should have a general timeline, but your guests don't need it spelled out for them.

I don't think you need a program for the reception! Honestly, I don't know that people really follow them, anyway. Going with the flow is totally fine!

Never seen a reception program at all. A timeline maybe like the one pictured below but they usually doesn't include every detail of the reception night! Go with your own schedule! As a guest I don't care how they order the events for the reception Smiley smile Programs are nice for ceremonies, especially religious ones.

I have never seen a reception program, honestly. Go ahead and skip it! I think the only reason to even have a ceremony program is if you have a ceremony with a lot of moving parts, readings or something that's somewhat non-traditional. Programs are totally optional.

I’m doing programs for our Church ceremony and nothing for the guests at the reception. But I am doing a timeline for our vendors and DJ so we can stay on track with announcements, dinner, etc. Actually our DJ requires that we give them a timeline ahead of time
