Is it okay by adding furniture to the wedding registry?

Karen, on August 4, 2020 at 9:35 AM Posted in Registry 1 11

My fiance and I are a traditional couple, we won't live together until marriage so basically we have to start from zero. I saw a couple small bookshelves on amazon for like 50 -70 bucks is that something we can add to our wedding registry? small couch maybe ?

I see no problem with this! In fact, as a guest, I personally would much rather buy a couple a quality piece of furniture that I know they would use daily than some fancy kitchen appliance that will be used a few times a year. These days, people register for all kinds of things. But that being said, not all people are like me and most go straight to the kitchen appliances and sheets and towels, etc. Depending on what registry you use, you can rank your items as "most wanted" and then guests will know that you really want the furniture

I know a lot of people that have put furniture on their registry. We also have some higher priced items as well that we know are not feasible for our guests to buy, nor do we expect it, but most registries offer you a discount on remaining items after your wedding date has passed (normally 10-20%). So even if your guests decide it's not something they want to purchase for you, you might get some discount later

My fiancè and I have lived together for 5 years and we still put a couple of pieces of furniture on our registry. Anything under $150ish I added as a regular gift, but there were 2 things that were at least $400, so I put those in the "group gift" category. It basically allows people to buy gift cards to contribute to them, and if you buy the item after the wedding, as someone else mentioned, you get a "registry completion discount" so if you got the full value of it in gift cards, you can use the extra money for something else. We registered at Crate and Barrel, but I think other places have similar options.

Yes most of my items are less than 100 dollars a few are basic stuff, i think just 5 items are less than 300. I was curious because my fiance and I are new to planning a wedding !! Thank you for your help!

As long as you have a lot of reasonably priced options, which it sounds like you do, you can really add anything you want. You never know what people will buy. We got a roomba from someone who my fiancé is pretty sure is his dad's cousin.

I'm glad I found this because fiance & I are in the same boat. We're also not living together until we get married so we're also starting off from scratch, we weren't sure what we could actually put no our registry because we didn't want to add in anything that's too large for our family to purchase. He feels like most large items we can get ourselves, but I kinda wanted to put some larger stuff on there since we can get a discount later on.
