Is it OK to ask for wishing well instead of gifts?

rozsing, on June 28, 2010 at 10:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

My fiancé and I are combining our households. We both have a lot of stuff and don't need anything else. Is it OK to include a wishing well poem in the invitations? The wishing well poem reads:

If finding a gift is hard to do,

our wishing well is just for you!

A gift of money or gift card is placed in the well,

then make a wish but do not tell!

If it is however a gift you find,

please feel assured

we will not mind.

Ummm etiquette dictates you should not include any registry information in your invitations. If you have a wedding website you could include it there. Otherwise, just spread it word of mouth. We had the same set of circumstances - combining two households - and we simply did not register. If people asked, we just told them we already have two established households so we didn't register. I have 80 thank you cards to send out and out of that 80, only 5 or 6 are for actual gifts (one of which is a $400 gas grill my coworkers chipped in and got. Can't complain about that! The rest were cash and gift cards. If you don't register, people will get the hint.

Ladylee is right, you should not be putting anything gift related info in your invitation. You could register for a few upgraded items for people who want to buy boxed gift and other people will most likely just give cash anyway without you outright asking for cash. Spreading by word of mouth is the best way to handle this. If people are unsure of what to get you they will ask.

I agree with the others. The other option is to register for fun stuff that you'd like. How about a Playstation 3 or maybe some movies? Perhaps there's a sport you like? Just thoughts in case you do want to put a few items on a registry.

Oh... we registered for camping gear because we both lost almost all of ours in our past relationships. It was the one thing that really needed to get replaced. My parents got us a tent for our engagement party. LOL
