Is it in poor taste...

Ay Dee Cee, on January 18, 2016 at 1:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

...to only ask for a monetary gift from your guests? I'd much rather have the money to use how I need vs creating a registry of items that I have no need for right now.

Yes it is in poor taste. Don't make a registry and people will get the hint that you would prefer cash.

You're going to get a massive amount of "no" answers.

People want to give you gifts so that you will remember them and the part they had in your day when you use the item.

You can't ask, that's in poor taste. However, you don't need to register- that is not in poor taste. However, you can't expect to have a bridal shower if you don't register.

Cool. Never thought of creating a small registry then leading them to what I prefer. Thanks!

Yes, most adults will already give cash. Create a small registry and they will get the hint.

Yes, it is. If you don't need anything, don't register or make a tiny registry, and then let people figure it out. Most people are smart enough to get the hint. You can also tell your parents so if family asks what you'd like or about registry stuff, they can just tell them.

Yes, it is always in poor taste to ask for money as a gift.
