It's never too early to get an idea of what you are looking for. See what you like, what you don't.

I would say it's never too early to start looking. Get an idea of what silhouette you like, what fits in your budget, etc. But there is such thing as buying too early!!

Wait till you have some details solidified before you purchase a dress. Like PP's said, dress regret is real!!

I don't think it's ever too early, but I'm also someone who once my mind is made up, that's it and I don't question my choice. It's up to you! Looking and figuring out what looks good on you and what doesn't is always a great first step.

I would only look generally. If you buy it now - you are going to have 2 years to start to hate it. If you don't but find one you love, you likely wont be able to get it in 2 years.

I wouldn't really try anything on until next year. You don't want dress regret!

I looked at pictures online about 2 years out to get an idea of styles I liked so when I finally had my appt, I would have an idea of what to tell the shop people to pull. I do think 2 years out is a little soon. I found over that year + since I started looking that what I liked morphed and changed quite drastically. I highly recommend looking online over the next year and trying on dresses about a year out from your wedding.

2 years is a long time out. I spent a good 6 months just getting ideas of what I liked and didn't. Walked into a couple bridal stores but felt awkward because I told them upfront I wouldn't be purchasing that day and just needed ideas.

I looked at a dress back in October of 2015 because my aunt owned a store and she told me I might get it for free. I tried it on, loved it and waited. I ended up buying it early April for $300 but I know that I won't keep looking, and I'm not the type to regret buying decisions because I really consider all my positives and negatives. I seriously wasnt going to buy until about a year out but this I went ahead on. Don't worry about starting to look but be thoughtful when you go to buy.

I would maybe look online for now. Dress styles change over the years, and you may not like the same things /style in 2 years that you like now. But if you just feel that you absolutely must go try on dresses, then go for it! And if you do find something, make sure that you LOVE it, and not just like it, as that can be an expensive mistake.

My cousin works in a bridal shop and says she feels really bad helping brides look for dresses when they are over a year out. Half of them end up trying to return the dress because they found something else or they come in to find something else. Dress regret is very real. She recommends waiting until at least 10-15 months before the wedding depending on the designer you're interested in.

Thank you guys for all of the helpful comments, my only situation is that I will be starting nursing school this August. So I feel as if it will be a little less stressful doing stuff now while I can, and not focusing on school.

Only to try on and then if you find something you love, you can try to search for it on preownedweddingdress.com in a year and buy it for half the price!

I bought my dress 15months prior to my wedding. I am totally in love with my dress and don't think that that will change over the next few months. I wasn't planning on buying so soon but a blowout sale came into town and I couldn't pass up on my dream dress for 499.

I don't think too early to look but yes to buy. Personalities, preferences, and style changes over the year.
