Is black okay to wear as a guest dress?

Getting mixed opinions about this, I have a wedding this weekend and was debating this nice black dress. When I googled it, it said that black is fine though if it's an older crowd it might still be frowned upon. The bride has over a 300 person guest list so I can't really tell the vibe of the group...

Opinions on wearing black as a guest?

I've worn black to three out of four weddings I have been to and no one cared! Wear whatever makes you feel awesome!

Is it an evening wedding? If so yes- day it could look harsh to some- but if I were going I'd likely wear black since pretty much all my clothing is black.

The majority of my wardrobe involves LBD's Smiley smile I feel good in them, and someone mentioned above that some see it as a disapproval of the marriage, and it is my FSIL's wedding, so the last thing I'd want to do is offend her. The one I'm thinking is black lace with gold accent thread. Maybe I'll wear bright shoes or another colorful piece like someone else mentioned above Smiley smile glad to know this isn't a faux pas!

I personally don't care for black at weddings. I love seeing beautiful bright colors.

What WWJo said. I think you're fine if you add some bright accessories. Especially because in some cultures unrelieved black is reserved for funerals. (Greeks are like this. My sister caught a lot of flack for having her bridesmaids in black, our Yiayia said it looked like we were in mourning.)

I think it's fine as long as it's not funeral-y.

Some people might be upset though. My FMIL was droning on and on about the horrors of how someone wore a black dress to her daughter's first wedding and how she hasn't spoken to them since (grandma on the other side). Seemed like a big overreaction to me but ok.
