Is anyone with a single stone engagement ring getting a slim wedding band?

OGmelanie, on October 27, 2014 at 10:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

So I had a wedding band picked out, but due to a site error at the time of course I went and looked elsewhere. Silly me! Now I have 4 rings to I want to choose from and I don't know which one. Cost efficiency is most definitely a factor here. My engagement ring is a single 1 carat diamond and I am now in love with this one band and it is dirt cheap, but it is only 1.5 mm wide and I feel like it's just going to get lost under the stone of my engagement ring. Is anyone buying a slim band that has a big rock on your other ring? If you already have it can I see a pic?

I did get a thin band on purpose. My ring is pretty large and heavy and there are times I know I will just want to wear the band, when going to the gym, casual things, etc.

    My engagement ring alone

    My wedding band alone

    and both together

How funny all the rings I'm looking at are emerald too and one of the bands looks similar to yours! Great minds think alike. Yours look good together

Thank you! I love my rings the emerald in my engagement ring was his mothers! I get so many compliments on my engagement ring, no one has seen my wedding ring and if my FH knew I put it on tonight he would be upset, but he doesn't even know I know where he hid it (so I don't keep trying it on)

He had Kay's Jewelers make the wedding band.

Love it, love it, love it! Gorgeous, Val, just gorgeous. I love the saturated colors of emerald, sapphire, and ruby. I love diamonds too, but I completely endorse the growing trend toward other gemstones. If I saw you in real life, I'd have to comment on that stunning set.

I don't think the band should compete with the set! When I first started shopping for a wedding band, I thought I'd care about ct number - but when I actually tried bands on, a lot of the bands with bigger diamonds just looked silly. If the band you are in love with compliments your engagement ring, I say, go for it, definitely.

I'm planning on getting the thinnest must unassuming band I can find. I absolutely love my ER and don't really want a wedding band, but the FH insists. Oh and I have a solitaire Sapphire in a halo setting. Love the blue stone and yes I'm all over getting a gemstone that you love including diamonds. Smiley smile

I have a solitaire the band i'm ordering is 2.2mm vintage band. I think an understated band is the way to go if that's what your heart wants Smiley smile

Excuse the background, I was working with DH and thought my ring looked really good, and couldn't drop my reins!

I have a solitare that's just over 1ct. I'm torn between not getting a wedding band at all or getting a very thin, plain band. I don't want anything to take away from the solitare.

I have a 2 mm band with a 1 carat solitaire. Don't have a picture right now but I can try to post one when I get home!

I have just under a 1ct solitaire similar to the "tiffany setting". My FH and I actually looked at bands this past weekend. I am set on a thicker diamond band but I ended up picking a thin one which looked more simple and elegant to me. I also have skinny fingers so big rings look funny so it's a preference.

I have a solitaire engagement ring - just under one carat - on a thin gold band. I'm planning on getting a thin gold band wedding ring to go with it. I'm not worried about it getting lost under the stone. I tried on a few band sizes with my engagement ring on and, honestly, I personally found that a thicker band looked weird next to the thin band of the engagement ring.

Is there any way that you could go to a jeweler and try on a few band sizes? Just to see what you feel looks best with your ring?

I say if you love it and it's dirt cheap go for it!! I have a solitaire but with a couple diamonds on the band on each side but not overpowering and chose a 3mm plain white wold wedding band which I think looks awesome! My mom has a true solitaire with a plain skinny band too and it looks very elegant and classic =] Hope that helps!!

This is my engagement ring, the wedding band is the same as the setting on this ring. It actually looks exactly like Liza's ring above

    I am!

My E-ring is 2mm wide with a single diamond and my wedding band will be 2mm. I prefer a dainty ring for comfort.

The 1.5mm ring is probably a "stackable" ring. You could get a second band for the 1-year anniversary ring to balance both sides of the e-ring.

I think it would be fine if the shape of it is nice and straight! I think all these examples here look beautiful!!! My engagement ring is my FH's great grandfather's pinkie ring from over 150 years ago, so it has sort of a curved shape to it and an inset minor's diamond surrounded by sapphires. There is definitely a curve to it, so we would have to have something made if we wanted something that fitted up against it perfectly. I love the ring as is as a stand alone, so we went ahead and just got a thin band with two small diamonds and 3 sapphires (about 450 bucks from the diamond district, not sure of karats), I think I will wear it on my right hand and my engagement ring on my left so nothing is competing with it. We did the bands only in the last couple weeks and tried to be really cost effective since we are hemorrhaging money in this home stretch. If some day we want to upgrade to something "more", there is always time for that!
