Is anyone not using a slip under their dress?

wifeytobejuly17, on February 9, 2017 at 9:54 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

My dress is fairly thin, only two thin layers and then all over lace. I heard you're supposed to get all of your undergarments before your first fitting so I am trying to prioritize and I only have 5 months before my wedding. Any help or advice would be great thank you

You don't have to get your undergarments before your fitting--at my first fitting my seamstress actually asked me to return what I had already bought and buy something else because it wasn't right for the dress. I'm well-endowed up top and I couldn't imagine going braless but she also convinced me not to wear my long-line bra because my dress had enough boning in it and she was right. I ended up returning a long-line bra and a crinoline and replacing with a hoop that she had me try on there.

You may want to talk to your individual seamstress about what they expect.

I think most people wear slips if the material is itchy, or if you need a petticoat to fill out your dress.

I had a fairly thin (with a lace overlay, like yours) corset fit & flare. The only thing I wore under mine was a nice pair of white panties. No slip, no bra. The corset did all the work for the girls.

I'm wearing a slip as the sales team helped me see the difference with how my dress moved walking with and without a slip. The slip helped to avoid the dress going between my legs and getting weird looking. I got it at the same store I'm getting my alternations done at.

The only thing my seamstress told me (well, her policy told to my by the associate booking my appointment) is if I don't bring my wedding shoes, she won't do the appointment.

I am not planning on wearing one. I am only planning on wearing underwear under my dress. No bra. I will bring my shoes to the fitting so we can decide on the length to hem.

I'm not wearing a slip and I have a full a line almost ballgown type dress. I don't need it to be any poofier!

Thank you everyone for your responses. I think maybe I will just call a seamstress and see what she says. I will bring my wedding boots, if anything we can decide on the hem. Thank yall

If it's fitted/sheath, you'll need a slip or Spanx to smooth everything out. I wore a sheath, it was structured on top so I only needed a backless bra and Spanx thigh length shorts.

I'd recommend you go to your first fitting so you see what style will fit best with your dress. My dress was backless so I actually had to do a fitting first to see where it sat on my back to see how high the shorts could be (had to avoid anything "high-waist").

Going to my first fitting today! My dress is pretty thin without boning so I was wondering what I should get for undergarments. I will not be wearing a bra, but bought some seamless panties with "muffin tamers" haha hoping they will be enough for my dress. Also dress has an illusion back so I can't do anything high-waist.

It depends on the shape of your dress and how you want it to look. I had an organza ballgown. It looked more like an A-line without the slip and I liked it that way so I didn't wear one.

I'm not because of the way my dress is shaped. Have you tried one in with your dress to see how it will look?

I'm wearing a mermaid and am not planning on wearing anything underneath in terms of shape wear or slips. My dress has a low back, so anything I'd have on would show. It's definitely a good move to call in and check with the seamstress first, I feel like shoes (or shoes that are a similar style and heel height to the ones you want to wear) are a good thing to have with you for sure.

I tried mine one with and without a slip, I much preferred the shape without. It has a few thin layers of fabric so being see-through shouldn't be an issue. I'm wearing some shapewear around my butt/tummy but no bra or slip.

David's Bridal sold me a slip/petticoat thing but when I went to the seamstress she determined that I'd be much more comfortable without it. I have sewn in cups so I'm just wearing regular undies and that is it! A line is very flattering.

My seamstress specifically told me not to buy anything prior to my first fitting except the shoes I want to wear.

Usually they will tell you exactly what you need if anything.

Mine is also a trumpet and VERY fitted. My legs and butt are larger, but I have a small waist (thanks Crossfit lol), so i really don't have any room for a slip between my body and the dress. I am trying to figure out how to keep the dress from going between my legs too bad though...

You probably don't need a slip, but make sure your undergarments are a nude or ivory. Sometimes white shows through depending on how thin the layers are.
