Is anyone else having "major" alterations done to their dress??

Kiesha, on August 19, 2011 at 8:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I adore my dress, its perfect! except it has a zipper on the back and i really really really want a corset...so i'm having the zipper removed and a corset closure made...is anyone else doing something similar?

I'm not Smiley sad. I was totally planning to, and was all set to do that cause my dress has a zipper as well, and I really wanted the corset back but my mom already when over the budget for the dress. The dress was like $700 and she only wanted to pay like $5 or 6 hundred. And when we got the estimate back for the corset back, and saw how much it would cost I decided to let the idea go. Smiley sad

My dress is strapless though, and we will be having a special halter made for it.

    So excited!

Ummm does having to bring it down 3 sizes count? LOL My dress is huge on me so they have to bring it down a few sizes ... I'm nervous but they say it won't affect the dress to much ...

I am so very fortunate, it was an off the rack sample that is in immaculate condition, and is fits pretty much perfect, the sales woman couldnt believe how well it fit, said it was like it was made for me... i just have to have it taken in in the waist, cause i have the bust of a woman twice my size haha but oh well, i still am completely happy. AND i got it for $399.... i had a very blessed day that day

I paid 1800 for my dress and spent 900 on alterations (resized, built-in bra, bustle, and two cleanings-one was for after the bridal shoot) but all for "comfiness". I want my dress to be verrrrry comfy for the big day that way I don't have to wear any extra frou frou underneath.

I had to have alterations done. I had to have a lot hemmed because i am so dog gone short. I also had a bustle put in. She had to take it in some around the chest. I am wearing one of the poofy slips with tulle underneath and even that had to be hemmed. My alterations were almost as much as the dress. Thank goodness, I got a relatively good deal on the dress.

My dress has a zipper back and I'm going to put a corset in! Luckily I found a CRAZY good deal on my dress so I still have plenty of money left in the budget to do this Smiley smile

Well, unfortunately for me, I do have to get my dress altered from the train. Be careful where you take your dresses to get steamed ladies! My dress was taken to the dry cleaners because getting my dress steamed was supposed to be a no brainer.

The lady BURNED the top layer of tulle and made a 3 inch tear in it.

This happened yesterday so you can imagine how upset I was when I saw my beautiful gown with a torn train. Smiley sad And one can't just add more tulle or replace the piece without ruining the look of the dress so its probably going to have to get cut off some how.

I'm having mine hemmed 6-8 inches, a bustle put in, i'm changing the neck line from a sweetheart to a regular on which also requires some beadwork done, i'm having it taken in 3-4 sizes, and depending on the bustle I might be having some detail added to the back because it's so plain. So yeah you can say I'm having alot done!

@ Ruby-- Wow, that is too bad about your dress . I hope that doesn't happen to me. I am thinking that I will most likely need to have my dressed steamed because it will be flying with me to NC

I was going to get a corset back added, until I found out how much the lady would have to cut out of the back of my dress. There is so much detail and beading on the back I would loose a lot. Plus my dress fits perfectly in that aspect. Only getting the bustle done now and it shortened on the bottom...

@Ruby, I am so sorry about your dress! Smiley sad @Christine, I bought a steamer for $50 at Walmart and did it myself. I knew that after picking it up and having it hang for two weeks, it would need another steaming, and I didn't trust anyone else to do it. I also ended up using the steamer on my wedding night lingerie and my BMs dresses. BEST $50 I spent.

Im having a lace up put in my dress as well. i bought a sample dress that had a zipper, but had always dreamed of a lace up. so major alterations include taking the dress in 4 sizes and a major hem (im way too short), and the lace up. fortunately i know/ work with some awesome seamstresses
