Is Anyone Doing the Tasting Of The 4 Elements?

Crystal and Allen, on July 19, 2011 at 6:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

It's a ritual that can be quite amusing while its symbolism is very powerful. It will make for priceless wedding photos. The meaning of this ritual is one that is not long forgotten.

1) Lemon symbolizes sourness.

2) Vinegar symbolizes bitterness.

3) Cayenne symbolizes the potential for heated conflict.

4) Honey symbolizes the sweetness that your commitment brings to your union & endures all 3 flavors.

Never heard of it. It doesn't personally have any appeal to me either. But if you want to do it- go for it.

Yes we (well not me, FH is) are doing this as a part of the "Collecting the bride" tradition that is part my chinese culture. He has to do it as part of a series of "tests" that my bridesmaids put him up to in order to "collect" me for the wedding.

he has to eat a spoonfull of each of the following

    sweet: sugar

    sour: lemon juice

    bitter: vinegar

    spicy: hot sauce

That would make for some interesting photos! I probably wouldn't mind doing that, but FH wouldn't like it lol. He's too picky with his food to do anything like that.
