Is a silver sequin dress appropriate to wear to a wedding?

Dana, on September 20, 2018 at 3:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I'm going to a nighttime wedding at the end of October. The dress code is black tie optional and I was thinking of wearing this dress. I'll be almost 5 months pregnant so I'm kind of limited. Is it appropriate or too much?

Its a cute dress but I think it's too casual for black tie optional.

I'm probably not the best person to answer this, but from my understanding black tie means the guests are supposed to wear darker colors (like, black...) and black tie optional gives guests the option to wear cocktail style dresses rather than long evening gowns.

That said, I still think this dress might be a little "loud" with all of the sequins and I'm not totally sure its appropriate for that level of formality. Definitely for an NYE wedding! I'd look for something in a darker color and a little more dressed up, even if its a cocktail style dress.

Others might disagree, but its definitely a beautiful dress! I just wouldn't want to draw too much attention to myself if it wasn't 100% appropriate for the occasion.

I think its a bit loud for an October wedding, I would go with something more fall appropriate and a bit dressier. To me, this dress is for a semi-formal NYE wedding.

When you are 5 months pregnant you will have a belly that will lift the front of this dress so I vote not purely for that reason. You don't want to be flashing people all night lol.

Something like this would be perfect

I definitely don’t think this dress is appropriate for a black tie optional wedding.

It's a nice dress but too casual.

Hi Dana! Welcome to the WeddingWire community! I love this dress, so cute!! I do think that it may be too casual for this wedding though. I would look into either a black or dark red dress instead! I found one that I think would look great, I'll attach a photo for inspiration!

I think it's SO cute! But since it's more of a black tie feel, I might go for a longer dress?

Its super cute, but I'm not sure I would consider it black tie. Perhaps if it was floor length.

Black tie is black/dark for men not women. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.brides.com/story/wedding-dress-code-explained/amp&ved=2ahukewjo5cbynmvdahvoyomkhy6jaysqfjawegqiaxab&usg=aovvaw2taasxtmfrfp6fq8dhj2f2&ampcf=1

You have lots of options. Renttherunway or similar places have plenty of dresses to choose from. Obviously maternity stores. Fb marketplace. Borrow from other previously pregnant friends. The dress you posted is not formal enough and for a really young person, as pictured.
