Is a rehearsal fiesta tacky?

Amanda, on June 4, 2017 at 3:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 41

I'm planning on doing a fiesta themed rehearsal dinner. Bright colors, fajita bar, margaritas, ect. Is this tacky? Or culturally inappropriate? I've seen a lot of cute ideas on pinterest. It's not going to be super clique with sombreros. Just bright colors and food. Kinda low key! Opinions

Honestly, as long as you are providing all of said fajitas & margaritas for your rehearsal dinner guests, I think it sounds awesome!

I mean it doesn't sound like you're doing anything racist, and everyone likes Mexican food, so I don't see any problems!

Sounds fun! I wonder where could you find a cheap piñata but I'm clueless.

Sounds awesome! I'm assuming neither of you are Mexican since you're asking if it's culturally appropriate. I feel like as long as you're respectful of the culture and don't use the Virgen de Guadalupe or other religious items as decor, you're fine. Like any themed wedding, how much do you love Mexican food and culture? If someone has a Dr. Who themed wedding I assume they're obsessed. I'm getting married in my home island PR and even though a ton of venue options showcase the beach, and FH grew up close to the beach in Jersey, the beach doesn't feel like us. Maybe you like Mexican food just enough and that's ok. I just recommend that you make sure it's something you LOVE so you're less likely to regret your theme. All in all I would love to go to this wedding! I will say that some believe you can't even touch another culture without it being appropriation. I disagree since cultures have been mixing forever. Just be careful not to accidentally make a mockery of the culture or incorporating elements with the purpose of making people laugh. But please invite me, hand me a margarita, and pass the nachos. Also depending on your region, mariachi bands can be an affordable music option.

ETA: oh so many early morning grammar mistakes. And I just realized it's for your rehearsal dinner not wedding reception. Disregard what I said about making sure you love the theme forever. I should not be commenting Sunday mornings.

Sounds good to me. I have a deep love for margaritas though so I might be biased

It sounds fun but if you are concerned about it being offensive do your research so it's not Smiley smile

My very favorite RD I've attended was actually at a Mexican restaraunt and had this same menu. It was great and everyone had a blast.

It would be culturally inappropriate if you also had sombreros, mustaches, and weren't truly celebrating Mexican culture. What you describe seems appropriate! Just what Anna said, do you research!

We are doing our rehearsal dinner at a nice Mexican restaurant with a similar set up. The food is awesome and high quality, but I thought it would be nice to go for a more laid back, casual atmosphere the day before a very formal type event. I love the idea personally!
