Is a diy photobooth better than no photobooth?

AshleeC423, on January 11, 2017 at 5:04 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 24

I really wanted to have a photobooth but after adding quite a number of people onto our guest list I'm not sure it's in the budget anymore. I have the idea of making a backdrop to hang up and buying some props and getting a selfie stick to make kind of a diy photobooth but I just don't know if it would come off as too cheap or tacky. Would you like going to a reception having that as opposed to nothing or should I just deal with not having any kind of photobooth? I'm also thinking about the ones from rent my wedding but if I can get away with "making" one then I'd love to save the couple hundred bucks.

Ehhh...I wouldn't do it, but then again, I think the photo booth thing is really played out.

That's what I'm doing. I just ordered a backdrop off of Etsy and ordered props from Oriental Trading. I bought 3 selfie sticks at Michael's on sale and I have a "selfie station" for 1/4 of the price of a photobooth.

Obviously, since I'm doing it I don't think it's cheap or tacky. I'm trying to make it look nice, too, with an expensive backdrop and typical props. I'm also looking into doing a sign so that people know what it is.

Try looking on Groupon? We got a great deal there for our area. If not I would pass on making it yourself, too much added stress to worry about.

I would skip it if I were you. If you DIY it you either have to provide a camera/iPad and printer or you have it there for guests to use their own devices and you probably won't even see those pictures. As a guest, I wouldn't be motivated to stand in front of a backdrop to take a selfie on my own phone.

I've been to two weddings with them and no one used the DIY ones. Like guests literally ignored that it existed

I've been to weddings with DIY ones and they still have fun taking selfies in there. I will have a DIY one.

If you do DIY, I'd use an iPad on a tripod with a Photo Booth app and some sort instant photo printer connected to it.

I would honestly save your money or put it towards something else. No one is going to complain that there's not a photo booth. As a guest, I probably would not use the diy one.

One of my good friends did this. She had an iPad on a tripod with a photo booth app and made a backdrop and some props. It worked out great! Not quite as nice as a pro booth, and there were no print outs, but if that doesn't matter to you, go for it!

We are DIY a photobooth. Got some inexpensive sheer curtains in our colors and we are hanging white lights behind. Less than $20. Haven't decided yet on if we are going to get the Zink printer yet or just print and send with our thank you cards.

Last year I went to a wedding with a DIY photo boot. No one uses it, not one. I say skip! Best wishes.

In my social circle, photo booths are really overdone.

@heather my friend just had an email/post on social media option. No prints out necessary.

OP make sure the dj/band announces "photo booth is open" or something so people know it's there. A lot of times if it's unmanned, people just don't notice it. My friends was on a balcony overlooking the main floor, so they had to tell people, but it got a lot of use.

As a guest I'm not looking for a photo booth. It's not extremely common in my area. It's certainly fun, but your guests will have fun socializing and dancing the night away.

I think it really depends on the crowd. My dad's side of the family goes ape shit for them and there is always a line, so there was no question that I would have one.

I think it's totally possible to DIY. Maybe do a test run for one of your wedding events? To see if you and your guests enjoy it and to get out the kinks.

My photographer threw in a photo booth for free! So many you could get a deal with yours. I also see coupons and raffles for them at expos.

I think it depends on your crowd, but I've been to weddings with DIY photo booths and I think they're still fun.

We are doing a diy photobooth with an app that emails it to you or posts on social media. This is the backdrop we are using but at the venue the chairs will be replaced with a red velvety sofa
