Is a bustle worth it?

Brenda, on January 20, 2014 at 5:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

I am just wondering if it is worth it. The closest place is an hour and a half away from me so I just want to know if it is something I just need to do or if it is just popular.

My train was like four feet long, so it was absolutely necessary for me.

It depends. Do you want to carry your train around or drag it all night? If you don't mind that, then no, you don't need a bustle. The bustle is put in to pull your train up off of the floor so it doesn't drag and you don't have to carry it all night, and pin it up with the rest of your dress.

If your dress doesn't have a long train and it's managable without one, I'd skip it.

For me, it is absolutely a must...I do not really want a train at all and considered a permanent bustle. But now, for photo purposes, I am just getting a regular bustle.

If your dress hits the floor at the back then yes! You can take it to any tailor to have it put in- it doesn't need to be done by a bridal shop. People will be stepping on your dress all night otherwise and it will be annoying to dance.

I considered it an absolute must! I didn't want to drag it around or hold it all night! Well.. on the way to our table from out entrance to the reception, H ripped the entire thing out.. stepped right on the back of my dress and bye bye went my bustle.. So I held it all night, and it was awful.. so yes, please get a good bustle! haha

After it's in have your bustling crew properly learn the how-to steps and have them practice to prevent a lopsided bustle, especially noticeable with with a ballroom bustle

Definitely a must if you have a train on your dress!! I just had my first alterations appointment today, and the bustle is going to look great! I had to drive an hour away, but it's totally worth it.

My train is long so I think it depends on the length and weight. Some carry them on the wrist but many have said not only is it uncomfortable but it takes away from the look.

I have just a very small train but I plan on getting my dress hemmed so that it is simply floor length with no train. The ceremony will be very low key in a small room with just close family so it's not like I need the train for effect and it would be bustled 95% of the time anyways so I figured it would just be easier to get it cut off. If you have a train I think a bustle is the most practical way to deal with it so you can dance and move around without it being in the way.

My train was barely longer than a sweep, but a bustle was an absolute must.

Mine was a sweep train as well, and I definitely knew when it had come un-bustled. People were stepping on it, it was heavier, I was tripping on it and mopping up spilled drinks with the train!

Pay close attention to your seamstress when they are showing you how to bustle. I didn't and couldn't quite remember how to do it (it was a custom bustle) so it kept falling out.

But, I definitely would recommend a bustle!

At my 1st fitting, I went for the bustling too. I don't want to sweeping the floor or cleaning the carpet while at my reception. There are about 3 or 4 popular bustle designs. Try to google a few images & then decide. Prices varies from state to state & bridal shop to bridal shop.
