Is a 3 hour reception too long?

FH and I are hoping to have our ceremony and reception on a private yacht that goes around Boston Harbor. They take care of pretty much everything (food, decorations, entertainment), but the ceremony is an hour and the yacht is chartered for a three hour reception. If we're only having about 50 people for a lunchtime cruise, and most likely will not be having too much extra stuff like readings, do we really need a three hour reception? I feel like four hours on a boat might not be too appealing to too many people, but the site has the fee set at three hours for all receptions.

I think the time frame is great for the size of your guest list, and the amount of fun they're going to have on a yacht.

I have only 32 guests. Our ceremony will run no longer than 20 mins.

The reception will be about 3 hrs 15 - 3 hrs 30 mins. I figure just under 4 hrs total works for the size of my party.

I think yours will be perfect.

Anything too much over 5 hrs mandatory gets long.

Absolutely have the photographer cover all your day from getting ready to the last dance. It's a once in a lifetime event! Smiley smile

Since there will be no dancing, I think 3 hours for a lunch time cruise will be fine.

My daughter's wedding is from 2:00 - 10:30 p.m. with various after parties.

Mass 2:00 - 3:15...It is being sung so will be long.

Receiving Line 3:15 - 2:30 Receiving line outside of church

3:30 - 5:30 The bridal party is having pictures. The guests will drive an hour to the venue. Many will check-into the hotel. Others will meet in the restaurant for cocktails before her reception begins at 5:30. Yes, we will be picking up the tab for the guests who are in the restaurant waiting. It's a Catholic Mass, we are accustomed to large gaps as the last hour for a Mass is at 2:00.

5:30 - 10:30 Cocktail Hour, Dinner Reception and Dancing

    10:30 Various after parties

I think that once you start planning the timing of it all, 3 hours is a reasonable amount of time. And it goes by so fast! Don't cut yourself short. Smiley smile
