Is 8 minutes walking distance? (In heels)

prisandbigfootsbuddy, on October 3, 2016 at 5:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Hi everyone! I take guests comfort and budget seriously! That is why I made blocks in two hotels. A pricier hotel, and a budget one. Budget hotel is across the street from the reception venue. The other one is 8 minutes away in walking distance.

Since the ceremony venue is farther away I am shuttling guests from both hotels to the ceremony and back to the reception venue.

Do I have to shuttle guests back to the hotels after the reception? Some guests are staying across the street from the reception and the others have an 8 minute walk.

Good question. Our ceremony is about a 15 minute walk, or a 2 minute cab/pedicab ride. We are making it clear on our invitation/direction cards that you can walk, but it's 15 minutes. [We aren't providing a paid shuttle, because, like, it's New York. Everyone walks everywhere.].

I would be a little surprised if there was a shuttle and suddenly there wasn't. I wouldn't mind walking the 8 minutes though. This is why I always pack my flats in my purse!

When I'm at work and am going to lunch somewhere that is 8 minutes away from the office, I will change out of my heels. Because I'd think that would be over a half of a mile. And they'd be walking 8 minutes there and 8 minutes back, plus being in heels the whole night.

I'm not sure what the proper etiquette is though.

I know in actual time it is 8 minutes, but after being in heels all night, and hopefully dancing, maybe some drinks in me..... 8 minutes, can feel like 20... But that's just me...

Do you have uber in your city? We are providing an uber code for people to use if they don't want to walk or take the subway.

If you make me walk for 8 straight minutes in heels, I'd hate you. And take $20 out of the card for every blister.

Is it 8 minutes driving time or an 8 minute walk? Do you have elderly or disabled guests?

I'd try to arrange for the shuttle both ways, our hotel extended the shuttle service hours for a small fee, like fifty bucks or so. If not I'd just nix the shuttle completely so as to not confuse your guests.

Eight minutes doesn't seem like much, but what if it's raining or just cold out? Also after a night of dancing and booze I'd super bummed to have to walk that in heels.

Thank you everyone! I am going to inquire about arranging a shuttle for guests to head back to the hotel. I think the hotel itself might be able to do it for a fee.

Your guests know how to Google map things, and how to carry flip-flops or wear wedges. Trust them to be adults and relax.

If I'm told "shuttle provided to reception" or something along those lines - I think most people would think that also meant back. Anytime I've had a shuttle to a venue, I've also had the option for it back as well.

It would be nice to have that option for the guests but it is not required. I personally would walk the 8 min but my grandma would not. And if it were raining, cold, or snowing it wouldn't be a fun walk
