Is 38 degrees too cold for outdoor ceremony?

Yeah that's too cold unless you've thoroughly warned your guests and have some kind of real jacket option for your bridesmaids. I'm a January bride in Colorado...I love cold. But I would not assume everyone will be okay in that temp

If I was a guest, and was alerted of the cold weather outdoor ceremony, I'd be fine. If you can, I'd rent heat lamps to have outside, and maybe buy a few (or quite a few) blankets to have for guests. Another nice option would be a hot drink station prior to the ceremony.

Yes. That is too cold. I was in a wedding this past weekend and the high was 43. Not an outdoor ceremony, but we took some pictures outside and we were very cold. And we were only outside for maybe 10 or 15 minutes. And we were in the south too. I grew up in new England and would not be thrilled to attend an outdoor ceremony with a high of 38 degrees. We switched out ceremony to indoors and ours is in August because where we are from it could be 75 and beautiful, 90 with tons of humidity, or 65 and rainy. Indoor just makes more sense for us. I hope you have an indoor option available to you?

I think that's too cold and I grew up in Tahoe. Is there a way you could order some last minute patio heaters? The big tall ones?

That’s absolutely too cold. I also live in New England, and while I might be used to the cold, I’m not sitting outside for 30 minutes dressed for a wedding. There’s only so many layers your guests can wear before they’re no longer dressed appropriately for the event.

Absolutely too cold. I think anything below 65 or above 85 should be indoors. I know you say it’s only 20 minutes but people get there early so they could end up being outside for close to an hour.

38 might be an okay temperature if they were walking, but sitting for 30 minutes they’re going to be freezing. Especially their feet. Heels don’t usually have any insulation at all so they’re going to be so cold. And I say this as a Minnesotan who is used to the cold!

Definitely too cold! I don't even think blankets and heaters would be sufficient.

Time to move to Plan B.

Hi Elisha! I think that 38 degrees is a bit too cold for an outdoor ceremony! You may be able to get away with it is you have space heaters and provide blankets, but even then, 38 seems too cold for an outdoor ceremony! Do you have an alternative plan for your ceremony space? Have you thought of possibly using an enclosed tent?

Personally, that's too cold. If you go through with it being outside, I would hand out really thick blankets. Maybe have a heater nearby.

Heck yeah hahah. I hear people here complaining about our 50 degree weather fall weather ... although your local people might be okay with cool weather, out of town people might not be so keen if they’re not used to it

Hi, yes, unfortunately, that is far too cold for guests to be outside. Even if the ceremony is just 20 minutes, people will be outside longer than that waiting for it to start and they won't be moving around. Your guests probably won't be wearing their warmest clothes that day, given they are dressing up for a wedding. This is coming from a girl that lives in Minnesota and is very used to the cold..... I just wouldn't do it (not even with heaters/blankets).

Yeah thats true. Luckily the venue has a spot for us to get married inside. We’ll just go with that. I don’t want my guests to freeze during our ceremony. Thanks for the advise.

YES. It's currently the same temperature here in Chicago and no way would I want to sit outside for any longer than necessary! Glad you have a backup plan!

If I knew ahead of time, I wouldn't mind as a guest and I'd just dress appropriately. People sit outside for football games and all kinds of stuff all through the fall and winter. But as others said, if you do it outside, I'd make sure that people know it would be an outdoor ceremony, provide heaters, and maybe some hot cider before the ceremony? If it's damp, though, it's going to be harder for people to be comfortable. If you can't do things to accommodate, then you might have to go with an indoor back up plan.

Some places let you rent out space heaters and I saw some really cute ideas for fun "favors" to pass out during the ceremony that included blankets and hand warmers! I would also let your guests know that it will be an outdoor ceremony, and not just on the website (since truly, nobody reads it). You could also do a "hot chocolate bar" before the ceremony as some pre drinks to help get some guests warmed up. I had friends do an outdoor ceremony in the snow so I really think you could make it happen but guests need to know and you need to do everything you can do make it bearable!

Way too cold in my opinion, but I’m also not a fan of outdoor weddings with any sort of weather. Kudos to you for having a back up plan!

I think that’s too cold. My limit is 50 (with heat lamps) for our 12/8 wedding.

if the wedding casual (pants/warm shoes) that may be fine, but if people will be in heels/dresses blankets won’t be enough.
