Invited to the cake cutting but not the wedding

Within the past two weeks, I have been invited to two cake cutting celebrations for couples getting married but not the actual wedding itself, via Facebook nonetheless. I am an acquaintance of one couple (they are close friends of a good friend of mines) and the second couple were former roommates. I know they are both having church weddings and I know people that are/were invited to the wedding ceremony of both. How would you feel to be invited to just the reception?

I would decline. Sounds like you were invited for the gifts. Facebook invites two weeks before are just plain rude especially when they are only inviting you to a cake cutting. I agree with allysia that I hope this isn't a new trend.

I see where you're coming from, and I understand how you (and other posters) feel. In my case, it depends on where the wedding was. If it were back in my home country, I'd be pretty offended, because it's not common. If it happened in Winnipeg - or other Manitoban towns - then I wouldn't be offended, because I know it's the norm here. But I doubt I'd buy something from the registry.

As for the Facebook invite, that one would probably annoy me somewhat.
