Invite Connundrum- please help!!

Sarah, on July 18, 2019 at 1:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
So my wedding is Sept 20th (a Friday and roughly 9 weeks away). We just sent out invites last week with our RSVP date of Aug 31. Our venue maxes out at 200 and we have invited 206. So far we have roughly one third of our RSVPs back with no regrets.

My issue is I have become very close to a girl at work after the invite list was already set. I would really love to invite her, but my fiancé wants me to wait until we start getting regrets. I know people wait until the last minute to RSVP and I don’t want her invite to feel like an afterthought. What should I do? Is it horrible I keep opening the mailbox and hoping for no’s?

If you are close to her does she know that you already sent invites out?

If not then I would give it 1-2 more weeks, invites usually go out 6-8 weeks before so you are still within that window.

Also it is not uncommon to get a 20-30% decline rate overall, the declines are probably still trying to figure out their schedule.

While it isn’t common, sometimes couples end up with 100% attendance so while I understand you want to invite her, I’d wait until you’re certain you’ll be under the venue max. Make sure you’re including yourselves and any of your vendors in that number too as usually the max is fire code related.

I would definitely wait until you get at least enough nos that she can fit in without you going over your max.

Definitely wait. And don't feel too bad you weren't close until now anyway

Even though I normally advocate against over inviting, especially because I did, so I know how risky it is....I would say invite her, if she is really that close to you & you want her there. There is always the risk that you will get 100% "yes" RSVPs, buttt that isn't the most likely scenario. For our wedding, we invited 245, received like 162 "yes" RSVPs, and ended up having roughly 34 no shows. Our venue max was 200 too, YIKES! But luckily it all worked out (except for all of that money I wasted on no shows, so annoying, but I digress).

I think you can invite her. Pretty sure you'll get more than 6 nos.

Invite her. If you are close and you don't, you may regret it later. It will all work out!
