Invitations & RSVP deadline???

Ana, on May 22, 2017 at 1:41 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

How many weeks after you send out your invitations do you give your guests to RSVP?

I was planning on sending my invitations out the first day in October and do the RSVP deadline November 15, a month before my wedding. Is giving them an entire month & a half to RSVP too long???

Most venues need a head count the week before. I gave myself a couple extra weeks to track anyone down that didn't rsvp.

So give yourself 2-3 weeks before the wedding then everything won't be so rushed and last minute for you.

When do you need your final count?

My rsvp deadline was 3 weeks before wedding (catering wanted a final count 2 weeks out-so I used that week to call the stragglers) and the invites went out 8 weeks before the wedding...so 5 weeks to respond.

Could you wait a week or so to send your invites? Either way it wouldn't be a huge deal.

I am doing about the same timeline. I'm mailing mine out at the beginning of August and setting the RSVP deadline as September 15th. I don't think a month is too long at all, and it gives you time to reach out to people you haven't heard from and adjust your numbers. We have to turn in our final numbers 2 weeks before the wedding, so that really only gives us 2 weeks to follow up with people and confirm everyone's reply.

Nah, I think that's good. Have you checked with the venue or caterer? Usually they want the final guest count in a certain amount of time before the wedding. For us I sent them out the last week of April with the RSVP date of June 16th.

Well I would do the RSVP deadline based off of your caterers deadline. My Caterer needs final numbers 3 weeks before the event. So we are making our RSVP date 4 weeks before the event to allow a week for late senders and follow up. So if that works with your caterers schedule, I think it could work.

Agree with PP. Our venue needs numbers 3 and a half weeks in advance. I mailed out invitations on 4/22, and the RSVP deadline was 5/19. I'm giving numbers next week, so I had this week to follow up with the non-RSVPers.

Our cake bakery needs a count 4 weeks before, and our caterer needs a count 14 days out. We're planning on doing a deadline of one month before, which gives us some time to hunt down any stragglers. (We're ok with some extra cake, so not as worried about that!)

They need a final count 2 weeks before. But I will be in school so I wanted two weeks to call people back because it'll probably take me that long since I'll have so much going on. But yes, I don't want them to forget about the RSVP, that's what I'm worried about. :/

My wedding is July 2nd and my RSVP date is May 26th and at June 8th I will reach out to them if I don't have everything back.

I'm sure he can maybe for a Saturday! He works full time & is taking classes at school so I didn't want to ask too much of him even though I know he would love to help.

I also wanted to get the deadline in before Thanksgiving week. I know a lot of people talk about their Christmas plans over Thanksgiving (at least my family does) & I didn't want them to make plans & forget about the wedding! Lol!

My caterer needs the final count and payments two weeks before the event. I added a week to that for tracking down stragglers, then added a few days to make it a round, easier to remember number. So for our October 15th wedding, the RSVP deadline is September 20th. That gives us a week and some change to track down late responders before we need to contact the caterer and finalize the bill. We have already ordered the invitations and plan on sending them the standard 6-8 weeks before, so sometime in August. We have STDs ahead of that as a way to direct people to our website for hotel blocks and give a more advanced notice to OOT/OOS guests who may need to take time off work or arrange a plane ticket.
