Invitations for Intimate Ceremony

FH and I are pretty sure we are going to make the decision to have a more intimate ceremony with our immediate family only. We picked out invitations we loved when we were planning on more guests, but haven’t ordered them yet. We will need to send them out late May or early June. Now with the smaller ceremony, we are reconsidering the invitations. He feels it’s not necessary to get the more elaborate ones we loved since we are only having family now. I feel like we should still get them bc it’s not out of budget, we loved them, and will have them to keep forever. He wants me to make a simple invitation to send as a formality. What does everyone think? Should we skip the fancier invitations and just do something simple?
